Kate went out for a run with deputy Bradley this morning, and so Bill is on his own for breakfast.

She offered to be back in time to get it, but he declined and left early before she was home.

Still out of uniform until he arrives at the station, Bill steps into Milliways expecting the local diner. Deciding to go ahead and stay, he takes a seat at a table and orders from a passing waitrat.

A few minutes later he has a cup of coffee, plate of bacon and eggs and a copy of the Wheelsy Register.

The front page article headline reads "Meth hotline going live". Bill barely gives it a glance before opening the paper and shuffling back to the sports page, checking up on how the Earl Bassett High football team is doing.

"I know you do and so does your town. The land always asks much of us,"

Farmers work all ours to get done what they need to and Bill's a protector, that sort of work is never truly done.

"Yeah. Been spendin' more an' more time on the Job. Think Kate is startin' to get stir crazy. She keeps takin' up new projects. Spent a lot of time tearin' apart an' rebuildin' the bathroom, but that's almost done."

He glances at the front door.

"She still ain't been home yet."

"Oh dear. Is there anything I can do? She could always come and visit me for a time, get a change of scenery."

[wheelsy_sheriff]

"No, she's okay to be stayin', she wants to be with me." And that makes him smile, though it's shaded.

"I just hope I ain't keepin' her. I've asked a couple times, but she always tells me she's alright."

She reaches out to squeeze his hand, "Then you'll figure out what you both need together."

He looks down at their hands together and nods.

"Yeah. We'll be fine."
