Hope, it turns out, is a walker- the kind of baby who finds it easiest to go to sleep and stay asleep if she's being carried by somebody walking. Which is fine, sort of, since it means at least there's a way to get her to sleep.

Unfortunately, Gordon's gotten used to Alyx's presence making it easier to sleep more than three consecutive hours out of every twenty-four. Working on the Overworld data and planning out the eventual Overworld assault and keeping in contact with his niece and keeping up target practice and beating-heavy-objects-senseless-with-the-crowbar practice the way he does tends to rely on him being able to get around five hours a night. Hope does not seem to know about this nor does she particularly care, so thanks to her sleep schedule, Gordon has been back to three or less for a while now...

... oh. Huh. He just walked into Milliways with the baby by mistake. Guess that was bound to happen sooner or later.

A wandering robot perks up. Hey, it's Gordon!

Gordon is murmuring something to Hope that sounds faintly melodic. He's a little too worn down to sing properly at the moment, but she seems to like the handful of songs he recalls playing on the radio from his time in Austria. She doesn't have to understand the words for them to work- and he doesn't have to remember them, either. So it's a win-win.

It takes him a minute to realize D0G is there, which is probably a measure of how long he's been awake.

Bwrrr oop? D0G cants his head to one side. Are you okay, Gord?

"Sorry, D0G," Gordon murmurs, resettling the baby as she squirms a little in her sleep. "Long day. Wound up here by mistake."

Guh. Words. Not his friends.

D0G points to Hope, then holds out his hand. Can he help?

Gordon thinks about this. He could use some coffee. There's no way he's going to get back to sleep now, unless it's the kind where someone wakes you up in a few hours because you were careless enough to close your eyes for half a second on the toilet. Might as well stick with the wakefulness.

"Hold her? In that... carrier thing... Alyx gave you?"

Mweep! D0G nods eagerly. He's figured out how to put it on all by himself!

"Oh good," Gordon murmurs. "I need both hands."

He'll just wait for D0G to bring the carrier out to where he can safely deposit his daughter, that's all.

D0G holds up one finger in a "hold on a second" gesture before lumbering through the front door. He returns a moment later with the carrier securely strapped to his undercarriage.

(He had Skitch's help putting it on. Don't tell anyone.)

Gordon smiles. "Good D0G," he murmurs- seriously, he's lucky to be getting English syllables out at all. "Okay, Hope. Stay asleep for Daddy. And your nice robot friend."

It would be just his luck if putting her in the carrier woke her up.

Don't worry, D0G has the hang of this by now. As soon as Hope is strapped in, the droid starts rocking gently from side to side to soothe Hope into deeper sleep.

Gordon smiles gratefully, or at least he thinks he smiles gratefully, and makes his way over to the Bar.

Oh, thank the little grey gods of Asgard for coffee.
