After a long day of combating the forces of darkness and despair, what could be better than settling in at the end of the universe for a drink?
Diana's relieved expression as she steps over the threshold suggests that this must be nothing less than the truth.
Once she's settled at a table, she gives a grateful smile to the waitrat that brings her mead.
A second cup will doubtless come in handy very, very soon.
[ooc: And slowtime for the night, please? I will pick up all tags in the morning. Thank you! <3]

"I should have guessed. Would you mind company?"

"I'll head up, I think."
She laughs quietly, then swoops up and into the rafters, perching comfortably a few feet away from Charlie.

"How are things in the real world?"
no subject
"I did, indeed. I had sandals, too, once."
A gift from Hermes, that.
"As for the world -- things there are much the same as ever. No universal catastrophes lately, but the gods alone know how long such a peace will last."
She shakes her head.
"As for you and Milliways, how fare things on this side of the door?"
no subject
"You were here for the Crisis?" There is, as usual when mentioning this, a certain contained excitement.

The squire is drinking tea (or would be if he wasn't staring so hard) and reading a dusty history book. The cat is perched on the table.
The squire is most definitely not hiding from a ball celebrating the nineteenth birthday of his prince.
Alanna is flabbergasted by the woman's attire. Utterly stunned. It's comical, really.

She smiles, sudden and warm.
"Shall I take it as read that you either know me, or you find my sartorial choices more than a little questionable?"
In Milliways, both of them seem to be common afflictions.
Diana doesn't mind.
no subject
"I don't know what you mean," she says.
Wait. Yes, she does.
"I mean," she starts again, then blurts out, "Don't you get cold?"
It is a very real concern for her!
So the answer is... the latter.
no subject
"My gifts render me particularly invulnerable to the elements. And I've been known to wear a cloak and furs, when necessity calls for it. That helps a great deal in more arctic climes."
She moves closer, though she remains far enough away that the squire's neck does not require craning in order to see Diana's face.
"Do you find yourself often cold?"
no subject
"Yes," she grumbles, "Always. Even now, in summer. These," picking at her formal clothes, "aren't as hardy as my usual uniform."
No matter that the ballroom will be stiflingly full of people and ambient smoke; Alanna will be cold -- especially hiding behind curtains as she is wont to do.
"Your gifts?" pops out next, and she looks almost eager. No one else here has referred to their 'gift,' plural or not.
no subject
Diana speaks like someone who knows.
"And -- yes. My gifts. Some might say I'm rather overburdened with them, but I'm not ungrateful. Tell me, does your world have people with great or inexplicable powers? Or gods?"
Some days it seems best to seek out a baseline before launching into a story about her gifts.
Particularly on days like this.

Then he tries to find a seat - the crowded bar is apparently the place to be tonight.
Mike ends up at the table beside Diana's with his drink, and settles in. He's fresh out of the shower, dressed in jeans and an FDNY t-shirt. When he sits, he offers her a friendly smile, and lifts his drink in a toast of sorts.

She looks meet's Mike's smile with one of her own, warm and open and friendly.
Then she lifts her drink in return.

But for the next minute or two, it's a normal conversation between two people in a bar!
"Hell of a day?" He asks, after he's sipped from his glass.
no subject
If she's going to take it literally, of course.
"But I don't think it's going on my top ten list, either. Can I hope your day was somewhat better?"
no subject
"Couple of calls. We kept kinda busy, but thankfully they weren't anything too serious. One car accident, a dumpster fire, and then someone decided it'd be a good idea to try and hold one of those 'spirit talks' in their apartment with the candles and stuff."
You really shouldn't do that when your tablecloth is made of a highly-flammable material.

She takes a sip of mead.
"Sometimes such days feel few and far between."

"Miss Diana, I did it!" She blurts out as she flies over. Of course with her new costume, will Diana recognize Julie?
no subject
Some characteristics are difficult to overlook. Adding a 'miss' to Diana is one of them.
"You've definitely earned it."
no subject
"But I haven't even told what I did or what I earned."
no subject
"I presumed it was what you were worried about when last we spoke, or at least somewhat related. But please, do tell me. I'll be glad to hear of it."
no subject
If Julie were older she'd likely have said tradition instead of family but in this case it's basically the same. It also might be worth noting the costume is made with a much nicer, high tech fabric and has a much better fit than her old one.

Speaking of past and future --
"So what's next for you, now that you've gotten your name and equipment?"
