It's a beautiful day at Milliways, and Gavroche is taking full advantage.

He's currently sprawled out on the lake shore, shirtless and sunglassed, basking.

Enzo sails by on his surfbaud.

"Oh, hey, Gavroche!"

Gavroche raises his head to look, then grins and waves.

"Hey Enzo! Nice... thing."

"Surfbaud." He flies closer, and hovers low enough to converse with ease. "Thanks."

"How does it work?" he asks curiously, lowering his sunglasses and peering. "Never seen anything like that before."

"I'm not a mechanic," Enzo shrugs. "You'd have to ask my sister-in-law."

"Maybe I will." He grins. "Enjoying the sunshine?"

"Uh-huh! It's still funny how different it is from the light at home."

"I don't even know what digital light would look like", he admits.

"More like electric lights. Less... sunny."

"Oh. Yeah, that makes sense, not so much with the natural."

Nod. "Sunlight's a lot more... intense. More of a thing. You notice it more."

"Can you get a suntan?" Gavroche wants to know.

"Uh-uh. Well, not normally. Bob and Dot got sunburnt once, but they were in a fairy world. It's never happened to me here."

He nods. "It'd probably look really strange with green skin anyway."

"Yeah, who knows what colour I'd turn. I could get a tan if I stayed human long enough, I guess. How long does it take, anyway?"

"Not too long, at least to get the beginnings of one. I always burn before I get a proper tan, if I'm not careful", he adds ruefully.

"I'm thinking of having a beach party for my birthday, maybe I'll try it then."

"That'd be fun." He brightens. "When's your birthday?"

"Oughta be around September 7th," he says. "Time's different at home, you know, but that's when it was here last time."

"I'll make sure to come in", he promises. "For whatever you do for the party."

"Awesome! I'll leave a note if the calendar goes out of sync or anything. It's usually pretty consistent for me, though."

"Then I'll definitely be there one way or the other."

"Sweet. Any ideas for other stuff I can do? This is my real birthday, you know, not just an unbirthday. I gotta do it right."

"What do you want to do? It's your birthday, that's what counts."

"Still trying to figure that out," he says ruefully.

"Well, what do you like?" He sits up fully, focusing on the problem at hand.

"All kinds of things. I like games and sports, I like music..."

"We could get all of those. Set up carnival games, football, people from here could play..."

"Oh, like all the games and things they have on the docks! Yeah, that'd be cool!"

"They'd be pretty easy to improvise, I think. Ring toss, knock down the bottles, all those things only without cheating so nobody can win."

"Right. What about prizes?"

"Toys from the Bar? Or if they don't want that, maybe a little bit of money off their tab."

"I'll see what I can set up."

"I can help out. See what I can trade for in London Below, a lot of stuff finds its way down there."

"Hey, thanks! 'Course, if my sister wants to help, I won't need much else, but you want to."

"Couldn't hurt", he says cheerfully. "I might find something really unusual."

"I'd like to see that," Enzo admits.

"And if it's magic, I promise to check it out first to make sure what it does", Gavroche says with a grin.

"Yeah, thanks. I can imagine how that would go."

"Very, very badly?" is the innocent response. "Although a little bit of chaos can be fun."

"A little, yeah, but I don't think I want to let a lot of it loose at my birthday."

"Fair enough. I won't bring anything that'd cause a lot of chaos."

"Unless it'd be really funny."
