Help needed!

Teja comes in from Gotland today, carrying a large bale of hay. Why he has decided that his horse Bramble should have early medieval hay is anyone's guess, and not at issue here.

He can't even look over the top of the bale, and as he walks a few steps towards the back door, he bumps into a chair, and it starts teetering.

He hasn't even seen who is there; but after a moment's hesitation, he calls out, "Eric! Would you please help me with this?"

A few seconds pass and then the bale of hay is hoisted into the air. And as Teja is holding it, so is he.

"It would be easier, if you would let go," Eric says.

He is not someone who would go out of his way to help others. But apart from feeling a certain amount of kinship with the dead Goth - for various reasons - Teja is also someone who is in power here. And power is something Northman appreciates.

Teja lets go.

"My thanks," he says. "I know there would be one Eric or another."

Eric raises an eyebrow. Questioningly.

"I have lately ran into several newcomers that are all named Eric, so I supposed at least one would be there and help, rather than calling 'Somebody help me please', upon which all present might think that by 'somebody', another is meant," Teja explains.

[onceaviking]

"Sensible enough," Eric replies. "Though I must stress - I do not habitually log around hay."

"I do not habitually bring hay from Gotland," Teja says. "I thank you for your help!"

Eric nods. "Think nothing of it, Goth."

[ostro_goth]

"I should probably have brought the wheelbarrow," Teja says, by way of an apology.

"Another time, that might be prudent," Eric says dryly.

[ostro_goth]

"I didn't want to drag Adalgoth's largest wheelbarrow away to a distant planetoid," Teja says, as dryly. "I assumed he might need it before I would return."

[onceaviking]

"Does time pass there while you are here?"

Interesting.

[ostro_goth]

"Yes," Teja says. "I am not of my world any longer. Time there passes as it passes here."

[onceaviking]

Eric eyes narrow in thought.

"That is interesting. The rules governing this place makes for a fascinating study," he says.

[ostro_goth]

"And once you think that you understood it all, something even more bizarre will instantly happen and make mince-meat of your study," Teja says.

[onceaviking]

Eric shrugs.

"That is no matter. I merely dabble. I never was much of a thinker."

This is a lie. But a convenient one.

"You do try to puzzle things out and understand," Teja points out.

[onceaviking]

"Only to pass the time here," Eris replies with a small smile.

And then he adds, as if suddenly remembering, "I have also, since last we spoke, taken your advice. I met someone who was agreeable to my suggestion and we acquired a room. It worked very well."

"Good," Teja says. "May I ask who, or is that a matter of discretion?"

[onceaviking]

"There have been two so far, both of them long-lived Greeks." Eric shrugs. "I would not at all mind if I met a woman or two who were amiable but - " Another shrug.

Beggers can't be choosers.

[ostro_goth]

Teja looks at him again. Tall, broad, blond, strong. Like Eric the Huntsman, and that dubious character who accosted Teja, Steve Rogers.

"I would guess," he says, almost smirking, "one of the long-lived Greek men was Orpheus?"

"It might have been," Eric replies. "It might very well have been."

[ostro_goth]

"Interesting," Teja says. "And much like what he would do, as I know him."

Presumably, they deserve each other. Teja is sure that a vampire would have no trouble dealing with Orpheus and his divine magic, or the other way around.

Eric would be far more uneasy around Orpheus if he had realized that he commands magic.

"He does seem - busy."

[ostro_goth]

"Quite popular, even," Teja says. "Though not with me."

[onceaviking]

"You've had a quarrel?"

These things are always good to know.
