Val is back to human and has spent the last few nights in her room, attempting to finalize a few experiments but her mind wasn't really into it so she didn't get too far. Well, she did with a computer simulation or two but the chemical ones just weren't grabbing her attention.

Now she's downstairs and wanting a root dir float but that would require her to digitize herself again and it seems irresponsible to do that just for a tasty beverage. Maybe a root beer float will be just as good?

"Hey, Val! Where have you been?"

[time_dancer]

"Hey Enzo!" Val replies with a grin. "Checking on some old experiments I had left over from before things went explodey here. Oddly enough, most are back to the state they were in before."

[a1enzo]

"That's a relief." He knows exactly how disastrous an experiment gone wrong can be.

[time_dancer]

"Definitely." Val agrees. "How are things back in Mainframe and the Academy?"

[a1enzo]

"Mainframe's as usual last I heard. The Academy's fine. Fieldwork..." His face is the picture of ambivalence.

[time_dancer]

"Fieldwork?" Val asks, intrigued. Growing up with the Fantastic Four, fieldwork likely means something different to her than to other people.

[a1enzo]

"It's the last quarter of my training. I'm partnered with a full Guardian, to follow him around on his duties and help out."

Which would be awesome, except...

[time_dancer]

"You don't seem to happy with the idea. Don't like the Guardian or are they not letting you do anything?"

[a1enzo]

"Mostly the first. DOStin is... he's really stuffy. I'm trying to get along with him, and I think we're better than we were, but he never loosens up."

[time_dancer]

"Ouch, that's tough. Hard enough dealing with people you don't want to but when they're your mentor or teacher. Do you think he might be nervous about being a mentor?"

[a1enzo]

"I guess he could be. But he was our floor moderator before he graduated, and he was like that then too."

[time_dancer]

Val winces.

"Well good luck then. Can I get you something? I was about to get a root beer float."

[a1enzo]

"I wouldn't say no. Same but digital. Thanks."

[time_dancer]

"Great. Bar, can I have a root beer float and a root dir float?"

Once they appear she takes a sip of hers before turning to Enzo again. "So how long do you have to work with DOStin?"

[a1enzo]

"Three terms. A day and a half." A day being equivalent to a year. "Not every second, though."

[time_dancer]

"Can you request a different Guardian? OR would that be taken badly?"

[a1enzo]

"Nah, not if it's nothing worse than normal not getting along."

[time_dancer]

"Maybe they did it on purpose? After all I can't imagine being a Guardian means you will always get to work with sprites or binomes you get along with."

[a1enzo]

"Code, I don't know. Probably."

[time_dancer]

"It is hard to work with someone you don't like but it is possible. Sucks that it will be for so long though."

[a1enzo]

"Yeah, I'll live. So how're you doing?"

[time_dancer]

"Not too bad. Checked on things here and most everything is good," she replies a little too upbeat. "It's kind of weird going from digital back to flesh."

[a1enzo]

"Really? Most Users say the other way around."

[time_dancer]

"I don't know what it was about Mainframe but it kind felt like a home, you know? Well maybe you don't. I guess it's just that I haven't really had a home for a while now and Mainframe was so," Val says breaking off as she looks for the world. "I don't know it just felt right."

Enzo nods. "It's a good place."

It will always be home to him, and although he loves seeing new places as well, the fact that he's pretty much guaranteed not to be stationed there still saddens him.

[time_dancer]

Val takes a sip of her float.

"It kind of reminded me of my old world. Things were orderly but still loose enough for people to live. I would definitely like to visit again if that wouldn't be too awkward, what with my being a user."

[a1enzo]

Enzo brightens. "Actually, if it doesn't have to be Mainframe in particular, you being a User would be a good thing if you maybe want to visit the Supercomputer! I bring guests sometimes to do a Q&A at the Academy, and then I can show you around the system."

[time_dancer]

"I would love to see the Academy!" Val exclaims. Ever since she met Enzo she has been curious as to what the Academy was like.

[a1enzo]

"Alphanumeric! I'll see when's good to bring you." He grins. "Got a song you want us to lead you in on? We kind of combine the Q&As with our User music concerts."

[time_dancer]

"I'll have to think about that. What are the age ranges for cadets? In user ages if you would."

It wouldn't do to pick an inappropriate song if young sprites are around...actually it wouldn't due to have an inappropriate song period now that she thinks about it. First impressions and all that.

"Well, I started at 10, but that was a little early. Not too much, though. Graduation's usually in the late teens."

[time_dancer]

"So no gansta rap then?" Val replies with a smirk. "Not that I listen to gansta rap."

[a1enzo]

"Eh, it's not really our style anyway. Though we try to be flexible."

[time_dancer]

"Fair enough," Val says with a laugh. "Will a mp3 do?"

[a1enzo]

"Oh, my band'll be playing. But we could use a file to learn from."

[time_dancer]

"I'll try to get the sheet music too," Val replies when inspiration hits her. "Oh wait, Dazzler! I should totally use a Dazzler song!"

[a1enzo]

"What's Dazzler like?"

[time_dancer]

Val thinks a minute trying to decide as Dazzler is all over the place.

"Sort of poppy with hints of disco. Kick ass vocals that could shatter glass if she wanted. She doesn't stick with any one genre of music but she uses guitar and keyboards as well as sound samples."

[a1enzo]

Well, we dont have keyboard, but Caret can do some pretty impressive stuff with the theremin. We can work something out."

[time_dancer]

"I'll pick out a song then and give you a MP3 of the original and a copy of the music," Val says with a grin. Introducing a whole new world to the glory of Dazzler has perked up her mood.
