Epimetheus has settled into a table. Feet up on the opposite chair? Check. Whiskey on the table? Check. Guitar in his lap? Check.

A certain un-invitation propped up on the table next to the whiskey, making him snicker every time he glances at it?

Double check.

Nita also has a table and a drink, but in her case it's a pot of strong black tea. Her manual is open on the table; it's projecting, in silvery-blue lines, a 3D map of what looks like a series of mountain ranges and canyons. Nita is frowning in concentration -- and a little bemusement -- as the projection slowly pans along a particularly stark set of conical mountains.

And last but not least, Carmela has laid claim to a stool at the Bar and ordered a drink that is bright purple, sparkly, and heavily frothed at the top.

She does have a tablet with her that's currently displaying a celebrity gossip website (the text is in no earthly language, but there's something about the formatting that's unmistakably reminiscent of Gawker, and it's just possible that one of the pictures in the article is of a much-loved British actor with great cheekbones). That's just there if she gets bored of people watching, though, and really, what are the odds of that?

"I'm THE engineer type. The best the Allies have, so far as I know." He smiles, showing that modesty is not a problem for him. "Though that doesn't mean I wouldn't mind a few more breakthroughs."

"Reeeally," she says, crossing her legs. "Wanna play with my tablet?"

He gives quite a nice smile. "You're sure? If I break it, I can't fix it."

"If you break it, you can buy me a drink to make up for it."

"And can I buy one if I don't? Or do I need to break it?" His smile is coy.

"Oh, no, you can totally buy me a drink if you don't."

"Howard Stark at your service." He extends a hand to shake hers.

"Carmela Rodriguez at yours." She shakes his hand, smirking. "Encantada."

"Nice to meet you. Where are you from?" Being mainly a resident of Los Angeles, he knows some Chicanos, but she seems different from them.

"New York, originally. Hempstead. Like I said, 2011."

"I've got a factory or two out that way. A good place to build planes, with the airfields and the shorter trip to the ETO than from LA.

"I guess you could say I'm from LA, but I maintain a residence in New York City and I'm based in London at the moment."

"Ooh, tricoastal. Fancy."

"Tricoastal. That's an interesting word." Totally new to him, at least.

Cheerful: "Made it up. London is on the coast, right?"

"Actually, no. It's a bit inland. Which is a good thing, all things considered." Not that the Nazis are likely to invade any time soon.

"So...may I try your gadget?"

"Try whatever you like," she says with a smirk, sliding the tablet down the bar to him.

"There's no wireless connection here, though, so you're not gonna be able to play with the Internet. Sorry."

Blink.

Stare.

"Care to explain what that is?" He notices all the little pictures. And tries to dope out the meaning before actually touching the tablet.

"What, the Internet, or wireless?"

"The Internet. I would guess wireless means a connection via radio waves, as it usually does."

"Pretty much. The Internet is world-wide network of computers sharing information and, like, cat pictures. Wait, do you have computers yet?"

"Computational devices, used to do complex calculations. I think we're using them to break German codes." A network of such devices...interesting.
