Charles has spent the day in the library reading some old friends of books that he doesn't have in Washington DC as well as some new ones.

The time passed faster than he realized and when he orders a drink, he laughs before starting to go through the drink book. Tonight will be inspired by those he loves.

"Do you believe that because its how you think? I agree that there are many people who do have an idea of how they connect to a larger picture, but not all do. Having a fate is a great burden and not one that everyone desires to have."

Teja thinks for a while. "I think that knowing of oneself, and questioning one's place in the world, will make one self-aware," he finally says, "and that this awareness will take the shape of a tale, for that is how mankind orders its thoughts: - and when one such, self-aware and telling his own tale, looks back some years, he will see patterns and turnings, decisive moments that have been defined by their singularity, and by the later outcome, both. And then in hindsight, that which happened and gelled into a tale, will appear to have been a fate: - and doubly so if a story-teller tells the tale of another."

"And some will decide that they dislike the pattern of their life or that certain aspects have had too much power over them and try to smash it. Narratives are neat, lives aren't,"

Narratives are a way that humanity deals with the chaos of life and Charles knows how important they can be, but they shouldn't be relied on.

"And by trying to turn upon that which they know themselves to be, and remake their selves," Teja says, "they begin yet another turn in the tale."

A thread of worry weaves through his thoughts: - what if fate is too strong even for Loki to use the vantage point of Milliways against it, and it would lash back, and not only hurt Loki, but Pyrrha?

Charles takes another drink as its clear that Teja can't conceive of not seeing a narrative in a life.

It just feels like too simple a way of approaching the world, even in evolution, the way forward is not straight and obvious, there are mistakes and twists,

"Or just keep living their lives with new challenges."

"But so, many will do," Teja says. "Even those that have not thought much, until then. Or doubted. Doubt is a good thing."

Because those that doubt not, Teja holds true, will forge straight ahead, even into the nearest wall the existence of which they have not yet pondered.

"Yes, I'm a scientist and choose to question the world to find out how it works. Creating a narrative out of it says this is how everything works, when its only one perception of it."

"But the tale," Teja says, "often is what comes, when an answer is called for, to those questions asked."

"At times, it depends on how you phrase the question. Often times the answer is there are many options and we can guess how they might end but not predict them."

"I think that is how different worlds are made," Teja says, "each time when one of many possible answers is made the right one; every time that one reality is proven true out of all those unpredictable ones. Life is a web; fate and tales run through it like a red thread among the white."

"Perhaps, its hard to know which are the choices that create the changes, its not always the large ones as every action changes the world around us,"

He disagrees on the idea of fate, stories perhaps but he doesn't like to focus on them. That's a way of taking control away from a person by saying that fate is deciding something.

"The beating of a butterfly's wings, that may cause storms elsewhere," Teja says, to show he has heard of the idea.

Charles didn't quite mean chaos theory as its a new idea in his time simply that he's seen how people's emotions are changed in unexpected ways,

"Yes."

Then he moves to freshen his drink, they seem to have come to a place where they agree.

It does happen.
