New Year's tarot post

Tower is by the fireplace, drinking scotch and idly playing with a lovely red-and-gold tarot deck.

If you talk to him, he might offer you a card, as he has done around this time of year before.

It's been far too long since Mia's seen Tower. So when she notices him from her booth, she packs up shop and heads over, Scorpius held expertly on her hip.

"Hello Tower," she greets. "I've met some of your kin recently. And there's a new one of mine to meet."

"Hah?" baby Scorpius coos.

"Hello, Mia!" Tower says, looking up from his deck. "This is number three, right?"

[gorgonfondness]

She laughs at that.

"Oh no, not yet. This is just Baby Number Two. Scorpius, can you say hi to Tower?"

"Hai, Towah?" he parrots back.

[destroy_restart]

"It's a high tower," Tower laughs, "and when it falls, it's jsut a big pile of rubble."

[gorgonfondness]

"Wubba?"

"That's right," Mia agrees. "And after the rubble, we build anew."

"Wubba."

[destroy_restart]

"And that is how life goes!" Tower laughs.

[gorgonfondness]

"You would think I would grow more accepting of it, but like all humans I find my limits sooner or later."

She holds up her fortune telling wares.

"It's not exactly an earth-shattering change but asking me to teach divination is one of those threats to my comfort zone."

"And there's no point to it if you don't have a natural knack for it anyway," Tower points out.

[gorgonfondness]

"I only know enough to pick up on auras from the crystal ball and how to sniff out a phony. But no one else on the staff is any better off, so it falls to me since I'm the Guildmaster."

[destroy_restart]

"You're not getting anywhere if all you can to is multiply your own rule of thumb by pi," Tower says. "Better find an expert."

[gorgonfondness]

"I know. It's actually been suggested to me that I should wait for the expert to find me."

Which, to be honest, would do wonders for their credentials.

"In fact, I believe it was the Fool who suggested as much, though I could be wrong."

"A very wise fool, and you would do well to listen to him," Tower nods.

"At least there are some things the divination students can do on their own that I can monitor while we wait."

The Fool smells vaguely like catnip as he sprawls into a seat across from Tower a sulking look on his face. Following him to sprawl under the seat is Jocundus who smells even more like catnip. He wags his tail at Tower, tongue lolling. Unlike his master, he seems to be in a good mood.

"You look miserably and smell unexpectedly feline," Tower observes.

[forgottenmotley]

"I can't seem to make it go away," the Fool says.

[destroy_restart]

"Shower?" Tower says.

[forgottenmotley]

"Tried. Twice."

[destroy_restart]

"Then it's in your mind," Tower says. "Nasty smells sometimes stick. You need to smell something else to flush it out."

[forgottenmotley]

You can see the Fool almost sulkily say 'it is not' like some teenager, but he stops himself.

"Maybe I should go roll around in something nice smelling."

[destroy_restart]

"A bed of rose-petals, maybe, with one your charming friends?" Tower says.

[forgottenmotley]

"Do I have charming friends?" He runs over the people he knows in his mind and can't see any of them as "charming".

[destroy_restart]

"Well, then uncharming people of your choice," Tower laughs.

[forgottenmotley]

There's some serious thought on the Fool's end.

For about half a second.

"Nah. Too much trouble." He waves it off. "And how are you?"

"Most excellent, what did you think?" Tower says. "I like it when things are overturned and upset, even pyramids of catnip wine. Especially those. All towers are made to topple."
