Inara comes in wearing the expression in the icon. And carrying a pile of socks. And looking annoyed that she's entered Milliways and not wherever she was headed with the socks.

(Spoiler: She was headed to go toss them at her husband's head because he's let them pile up again.)



A helpful wait-rat brings her a laundry basket. They know her too well.

He's sitting at a table, eating a meat pie.

"My husband's. He has left them in the foot of our bed and on the floor far too often this week."

"It doth not seem like apt employ for one as lovely as thou art, fair wench!" Poins says.

"Well, thank you." Inara sighs, exasperated, as she looks down at the socks. "I'm glad someone sees it."

"Why not just throw them at his face, and then come hither and drink with me?" Poins says, winking at her.

Inara gives him a cool smirk. "He's a jealous man, and I like it that way."

"Worth caring for his sock as if thou wert naught but a common slavey?" Poins says.

"Oh, no." Inara laughs. "That is just a give and take of our marriage. Someone has to be annoyed at something at all times."

"Then thou art truly married to unquietness!" Poins laughs.

"Oh, have you met Mal, then?" Inara snorts sarcastically.

[poins]

"Mal is his name?" Poins laughs. "Like 'malediction' or 'malevolent'?"

"Malcolm."

"A Scotsman then?" Poins laughs. "Thou art too good for him!"

[makesmeatease]

"I'd be surprised if he could trace his lineage that far back, to Earth That Was." Inara smiles. "But perhaps."

"Earth that was?" Poins says. "Hath mankind, then, destroyed the very ground beneath its own two feet? And whereto hath it gone, once it no longer had the ground to stand upon?"
