The snow has finally subsided in the simulated Scottish countryside behind Milliways. It's still far from warm outside, but it's pleasant enough that Alyx feels like she can start doing her yoga routine outdoors again.

So she's doing exactly that.

Try not to trip over her.

Garyn has been trudging through the mud for some time now. He has found hacking at dummies and brush to be a good way to vent out his anger with the world. And Milliways has allowed him to do it in a place as far away from Leyawiin and his fellow guild members as he can get.

He isn't exactly watching where he's going very closely. Which is why he very nearly trips over this Redguard woman stretching in the middle of the forest.

"'Scuse me," he mutters. "Begging your pardon."

"Be more careful," she says sternly, not breaking from the very complicated-looking stretch she's doing.

Garyn's eyes widen.

"Erm...yes. I mean, usually I am. Careful, I mean. It's just...well, I didn't mean to...interrupt whatever...that is."

"It's called yoga," says the woman calmly. "It's a form of exercise designed for focus and meditation."

(She gets that a lot.)

"Oh," Garyn says. "Well it looks...dangerous."

Among other things. Twenty-one is even less removed from adolescence for elves than it is for humans.

"Mhh, not if you work your way up to it." She transitions smoothly into a somewhat less alarming pose.

"...Sure," Garyn says. "Where does it, erm...come from? I mean, who invented it?"

"It's from southern Asia. On Earth, if that means anything to you." Another pose shift. She's gotten quite good at not letting anything disrupt her yoga routine.

"Not a one of them."

Well, he's stopped stammering at least. When he's gotten back to scowling he'll be more or less back to normal.

"Where are you from, then?"

"Leyawiin. In the southeast of Cyrodil."

"...yeahhhh, never heard of either one."

"It's in Tamriel. On Nirn."

Beat.

"I take it there aren't any elves there, either."

"Nnnnnnope. Not a one." A beat. "Is that what you are?"

"Yes," Garyn says. "A dark elf.

"No shortage of humans in Cyrodil. Redguards or otherwise."

"Redguards?" she echoes with a quirked eyebrow.

"The humans from Hammerfell," Garyn says. "They have darker skin than most of the others."

"...I'm not from Hammerfell," she points out after an uncomfortable pause.

"I should think that's obvious," Garyn says. "We've established you're not from the same world as me. There are...parallels, though."

"Like what? All we've talked about so far is yoga and the fact that neither of us knows the other's geography."

Speaking of yoga, Alyx's routine is done. She stretches out flat on the mat.

"Um...there are humans in your world?"

He's not going to mention how humans all look alike to most elves.

"That's... not really saying much."

"There aren't humans in every world."

At least, he thinks they don't.

"Yeah, but there are in the majority of the worlds represented in Milliways. As far as I know, at least."

"I have noticed an awful lot of them..." Garyn mutters.

"Still, the variation in their appearance seems to be more limited than I'm used to in Leyawiin."

"Oh?" Alyx props herself up on her elbows so she can look at Garyn. "How so?"

"Well, most of the ones I've encountered have pale skin like the Nords or Bretons. I mean, I can tell their faces apart - I was raised with and by humans. But most of my bretheren couldn't."

...aaaand he's mentioned it.

"Excuse me?"

"Well, perhaps they could tell a Nord from a Breton," Garyn continues. "But a Breton from an Imperial? To them it would be nearly impossible."

"I don't know what any of those mean, but I get the feeling I should be insulted."

"No offense is meant," Garyn says. "They just don't see many humans in Morrowind, outside of the odd legionnaire or trader. The subtle differences of human appearances are beyond them. I've been told all Dunmer look alike."

"Dunmer?"

Alyx is feeling simultaneously bewildered and annoyed by this conversation.

"That's what we Dark Elves call ourselves."

Garyn has had more awkward conversations than this one. He can probably count them and still have fingers left over.

"Then why didn't you say that in the first place? You can't assume people are going to know what you're talking about here."

"Sorry, I...haven't been here very long."

Garyn examines a nearby twig the melting snow has uncovered.

"Besides, I, uh...had thought I'd already said it."

"How long have you been here?" inquires Alyx, sitting up properly. "Someone's given you the rules spiel, right?"

"Long enough to hear that part," Garyn says. "Easy enough to remember."
