As Charles was feeling in the mood to read something different, he asked Bar for a recommendation and she gave him a book that grabbed his attention.

She gave him a fantasy book that deals with some familiar themes and has given him some ideas for approaching the world. As Bar likes to protect her patrons, its in a blank cover that doesn't show what it is. Since the weather is nice, he's reading outside by the garden with an iced tea as he reads.

(OOC: Charles is listening passively as he's concentrating more on reading. Please let me know your character's thoughts in the narration or why Charles wouldn't be able to hear them. Thank you. I am done with the school year! This is open until it scrolls. All threads are set before the one with Sallie.)

"Don't squint while you read, Charles. You'll give yourself glasses."

"I didn't mean to squint, I started out in the shade,"

Then the sun moved and he was too into the book to move to find a better place to read.

Sallie puts down in a chair nearby and digs in one of her pockets to withdraw something to pitch in Charles' direction.

"Sunblock, pale face. Requirement."

"Oh yes, thank you. How are you doing?"

His bookmark goes into his book before he starts applying the sunscreen.

"I'm good!"

A couple flashes of Splinter, Shadow, then more Splinter.

"Busy, but good."

"Busy's a good way to be. I'm the same,"

Lots of work on Cerebro, moments with Erik and many in Milliways.

"How's your lady friend? Or Erik? Do we keep up with both still?"

He runs a hand through his hair before answering as its still complicated,

"She is off fighting in the Trojan War and I haven't heard from her in a while. He's still Erik."

"Well that don't sound simple at all."

"No, it doesn't feel it either."

"You still love Iris?"

"I do. I've never met anyone as full of light and acceptance as she is."

"Then I wonder if we can't figure out a way to get a message across to 'er. You think?"

"I know she can hear me at times. I just need to focus on her to do it."

"Have you been?"

"Sometimes, she's always on the edge of my thoughts but I haven't brought her to forefront enough,"

He knows that and knows he needs to work harder as he misses how right she made him feel.

"Seems like you have somethin' to do."

Spoken like a lady who doesn't really know what she's talking about.

"I do. How are you and Splinter doing?" He'll do it once he finishes talking with her.

"We're...good. Shi a. Better than, really. He's not gettin' tired of me at all, which is weird."

Charles smiles at her, "Of course he's not, you're you."

"Flatterer."

"Just telling the truth."

Sallie reaches forward and pats Charles on his knee.

"Go flatter your lady. I'm off to the stables to check on Tequila. Come by later - I'm making beer bread."

"I will. I don't think I've had that before."

"Old dogs new tricks."

Sallie stands up, and leaves with a wave.

The book can wait, m'dear.
