As Charles was feeling in the mood to read something different, he asked Bar for a recommendation and she gave him a book that grabbed his attention.

She gave him a fantasy book that deals with some familiar themes and has given him some ideas for approaching the world. As Bar likes to protect her patrons, its in a blank cover that doesn't show what it is. Since the weather is nice, he's reading outside by the garden with an iced tea as he reads.

(OOC: Charles is listening passively as he's concentrating more on reading. Please let me know your character's thoughts in the narration or why Charles wouldn't be able to hear them. Thank you. I am done with the school year! This is open until it scrolls. All threads are set before the one with Sallie.)

"Well, the project was to look at how mould grows on fruit, but fortunately he only set it up a couple of days ago, so there wasn't any mould on it." Guppy says. "Fry was a bit upset though."

Brooke laughs, on cue.

"Oh dear. Did he have time to get a new project going before it was due?"

Charles smiles at Brooke and tucks the dandelion behind his ear.

"Yeah, we found him an overripe cucumber that had fallen down the back of the fridge." Guppy says. "He'll probably have the best mould project in the class by the time he's done."

"That's good. I know that must have worried him."

"Well he doesn't really interact with Brooke at all as it is." Guppy says. "So we don't really want him to get negative ideas about her. But he did defend her that time he found Autor's report - he told him to step away from her - which is about the only time he's really acknowledged her in a positive way.

And yeah, he threw a really massive tantrum; fortunately we have a quiet room since we had the extension but he was going a good half an hour. He didn't hit her or anything though so that was a sign of restraint on his part."

"I see, that sounds rather complicated for everyone involved."

"Well, we're kind of used to it, it's more problematic if he throws a tantrum at school. He doesn't lose his temper badly as often as he used to, but if he really kicks off he's a lot bigger and we have had occasional damage. At school they have a teaching assistant in the class who keeps an eye out and takes him outside if he looks close to meltdown.

"If you're used to him you can spot signs that he's going to kick off - he starts making high pitched noises, flapping his hands, rocks his body and won't sit still. If he's really upset he bangs his head on the wall. The teachers at his school are really good at defusing him though; he hardly ever needs to be taken out of a normal class, it's usually noisy or overstimulating things like PE or if people are playing recorders."

"I'm glad he's got someone to help him out, because he's smart and will do well in the right situation."

"Yeah, we've been lucky with the school." Guppy says. "He'll be changing class in September of course, but we'll cross that when we get to it. At the moment we're busy trying to find summer holiday activities that will take both him and Coral. He got banned from quite a few last year and she's too young for a lot of the others, but we'll get there."

Brooke decides to climb on Charles' knee.

"Brooke's thriving at nursery, but Coral's told me she doesn't want to go to nursery for the holiday because it's for babies."

Charles helps her get comfortable, setting his book and drink out of her reach,

"I can see that and its tricky to get something that they all like."

"Yeah, they might not get their own way this year." Guppy says. "But we can try. We're not quite ready to beg Granny and Grandad yet."

"I'm certain people here would be willing to help."

"I can't ask people to come watch the kids every day for six weeks, but thanks." Guppy says. "We will work something out."

Flower! Brooke looks up at the flower behind Charles' ear.

"No, but sometimes. Yes, the flower's here."

Brooke stares intently at the flower; Charles might pick up a mind that notices little details, and remembers clear pictures, but lacks the chaotic nature with it that he would have got from Fry.

"Yes, I'm sure we can grab someone for the odd day. We'll bribe them with cake." Guppy says.

He holds Brooke closer so she can reach the flower.

"What's she thinking?" Guppy asks, watching them.

"She's looking at the flower and all the details around us. She has a clear vision. Do you want the flower, Brooke?"

He leans towards her.

"Heh, good to know, saves a trip to the optician." Guppy says.

"Beep!" Brooke declares, reaching out and touching Charles' nose.

He laughs and touches his nose to her finger.
