When Steve sits at the bar, the first thing he gets is a cupcake with red, white and blue frosting and Happy 95th Birthday!.

"Yeah, yeah," he says in a good-natured tone, because even he has given up trying to keep track of how old he is. Twenty-eight, ninety-five, two? Ninety-five is probably the most accurate.

The second thing he gets is a napkin: Want to bartend today?

Yes. Yes, he does. The Big Book of Drinks even has a patriotic section.

Chuckling, "I can imagine. So how did you get this body back?"

"Cubefall ended," he says simply.

"What is Cubefall?" she hasn't been around enough to have noticed.

"It's a holiday that...remakes people, I guess. If they want. It restored me to factory settings."

"Factory settings? You mean that they way I saw you was the way that you were." a statement not a question.

She thinks about her being reset to factory settings, "That would be terrible."

"Yup," Steve says simply. "Then I got...changed.

"It wasn't so bad, though, and I knew it would last long."

"Yes, well it's been so long I'm not certain I would know how to handle being mortal again." she shivers and is greatful she made it out unscathed.

"Well, the thing about Cubefall is it's by choice," Steve says. "So no one would force you to go back."

"That's good." she looks at the boards again, "It's over anyway." with a shrug, "So what are you doing with yourself today?" gesturing a the board, "Other then bartending"

"It's my birthday," Steve says, smiling, "so I think I'm going to eat a Fourth of July picnic by the lake and light some firecrackers after the sun goes down, and at some point there will be cake."

"Cake is good. What kind of cake?"

"Happy Birthday. I love birthdays." though she has long since stopped caring about the number of years.

"Thank you.

"Probably chocolate, but I'm good with whatever the Bar gives me. I like it when it's a surprise."

"Surprises are fun" she states, "But so are presents, what do you want for your birthday?"

He laughs at that. "Um, thanks, but pretty much all I need is time with my boyfriend."

"Ooh, who is your boyfriend?" and she will still try to think of something to get him.

Steve says with obvious affection, "His name is Orpheus. He's a musician from ancient Greece."

Amanda likes that look and she may have heard of Orpheus from legends.

"That's from even before my time." Beaming, "Tell me all about him!"

"Well," Steve says, because he's told her pretty much all he's willing to share with someone he doesn't know very well, "he's been alive for three thousand years. Sings to me whenever I ask. Took me to Paris while I was still fighting the war in my time, so it was good to see that it survived. He's... he's pretty good to me."

"That is wonderful, love is grand. It's really one of the things that make living worth while. You are both very lucky." she wasn't asking for any secrets. She is just enjoying how happy he is.

"Thank you. I think we are, too."
