When Steve sits at the bar, the first thing he gets is a cupcake with red, white and blue frosting and Happy 95th Birthday!.

"Yeah, yeah," he says in a good-natured tone, because even he has given up trying to keep track of how old he is. Twenty-eight, ninety-five, two? Ninety-five is probably the most accurate.

The second thing he gets is a napkin: Want to bartend today?

Yes. Yes, he does. The Big Book of Drinks even has a patriotic section.

"Isn't that what an All-American Beauty is?" Orpheus asks with a smile, kissing Steve again.

"Either way, it's very generous of you on your birthday."

"You don't serve me with a slice of lemon.

"It's no bother. I like bartending and my birthday is as good a day as any."

"Well, I haven't yet," Orpheus agrees, laughing.

"All the same, how would you like to celebrate?

"I would like," says Steve as he takes Orpheus's hands, "to eat a picnic with you out by the lake, with cake, and then light firecrackers and sparklers when it's dark. How does that sound to you?"

"That sounds lovely, lovely," Orpheus says, bringing Steve's hands to his lips to kiss them.

"Good," Steve says, watching him with a soft smile.

"So...I know you told me last year, but...what is the special occasion that happens on your birthday?"

"We celebrate America's independence from Britain," Steve says. "July Fourth is when the Declaration of Independence was signed. It took another six years or so to actually win independence, but we don't light fireworks for that."

He nods. "Got it. I...may forget by next year," he adds, a bit sheepishly.

"I think as long as you remember my birthday, I'm okay with that. I'll just have to remind you about the rest."

He scratches his head. "I may have to get a calendar."

Honestly, he still has trouble with the whole 12-month year thing.

"Whatever helps you, honey."

He smiles and leans forward. "It will be all blank except July 4th. Steve's birthday."

Steve laughs and kisses him lightly. "That is the only date that matters."

"Then I'll be set!"

Steve laughs.

"Hey, I bet if I asked the Bar if she's rested enough, she'll say yes."

"What are you waiting for, lovely?"

Steve opens his mouth to ask when the napkin pops up. Go on, you two.

"You're a peach, Miss Bar," Steve says, and then adds, "And could we have a picnic and some firecrackers?"

Bar provides. The sparklers stick out of the basket.

Steve takes it with one more, "Thank you," and comes out from behind the bar. "Ready, sweetheart?"

Orpheus watches the exchange with amusement and fondness.

"Yes, I certainly am."

"She spoils me," Steve says, taking Orpheus's hand.

[ooc: OOM? I'm thinking I'd like to close bartending.]

"She likes you," Orpheus says with a laugh, tugging him toward the door.

[ooc: Sure! Will you set it up?]
