[OOM: In which Joshua has a run-in with a very specific kettle]

Joshua walks into bar, a very confused look on his face and a ferret curled up on his shoulder. He walks over to Bar, gets a bowl of ferret food, a grilled cheese, and a soda, then claims a table.

The ferret slinks down off of his shoulder to nibble a bit while Joshua reads.

...well, that's new.
"Run-in with the kettle?" Claudia says as she sits down across from her brother.

"Yeah, what the hell even is that thing? It's in a tub of goo in Charleston Sector at the moment, because I figured it needed to be there." He can't exactly say how he knew it needed to be in a tub of good, but he did.

"Wishing kettle. It grants wishes, unless they're implausible and then it grants ferrets. 's where Myka's came from."
Claudia nods. "We can put it away later."

"I didn't know Myka had a ferret." He pauses. "And I really don't think I wished for anything."

"Yeah, she named it Pete."
As for the latter part, Claudia just raises an eyebrow at her brother. There's one thing he's always wishing for, and they both know it.

"Of course she did." He reaches out and scritches his ferret, and it snuggles his hand a bit.

He just shrugs at his sister. It's not as wish as much as a regret, but regrets can be as strong as wishes.

She rolls her eyes - a kettle can't turn back time or HG would've tried it by now - and reaches over to scritch the ferret herself.
"Story goes Myka wished for a transfer and ended up with a ferret. And Artie said once he brought a ton of ferrets down on the place, back in the day."

"Why ferrets, though? I mean, does it summon them from somewhere? A kettle can't just... produce sentient creatures, can it?" The ferret that is currently nuzzling Claudia's hand certainly looks alive. "I... what is this I do not even."

You'll have to pardon the scientist, Claudia. He's really confused right now. Ferret-producing kettles don't fit his theories.

Claudia shrugs. "Hell if I know. You'd probably have better luck asking Artie. At least it's a cute ferret."

The ferret skitters up Claudia's arm and settles on her shoulder.

"It also seems to be really friendly. I guess if I have a ferret, it's probably better to have a cheerful one?"

"Definitely, considering Myka's tended to pee in people's shoes."
n'awwwwwww, ferret.

"If you do that, ferret-face, you aren't getting any sympathy from me. Or Helena, frankly." He shakes his head, reaching over to scritch it while it snuggles Claud.

"Poor thing needs a name, but I have no clue what."

"I got nothin'. I'd say crowdsource it, but who knows what you'd get out of that."

"Maybe have a Youtube contest." He shrugs. "But that would require actually reading my comments sometimes." He knows that he gets a lot of views, but still doesn't realize how really truly popular he is.

Claudia makes a face. "Don't have a Youtube contest. It'll end up named Faggot McCuntface or something."
Even if Joshua is a minor Tubes celebrity, Youtube comments are... you know. Youtube comments.

"I wouldn't actually pick that name. If I did a contest, it would be at my discretion." He shrugs. "It probably is a bad idea anyway. But... what the hell do I call the poor thing?"

"I dunno. Ask HG if she has any ideas?"

"I might. Or I might put up a sign here if she doesn't have anything." He eyes the ferret who is cleaning itself for a moment. "I... I don't think I could get rid of it. It's kinda adorable." Even though Univille doesn't have a vet anymore, damnit Pete.

It's a rural area. There'll be another vet sooner or later. Hopefully one Pete won't fall for.
"Well a sign here will get you some weird suggestions, but not as weird as Youtube comments."

"I doubt they'd be as profane as YouTube at any rate. I wouldn't necessarily mind something silly. Snuggly little thing might could use a silly name."

"Probably." Claudia shrugs. "Cute little thing."

"I know." The ferret stands up a bit and nuzzles Claudia's cheek.

"It really seems to like you too. Huh. I see how it is, ferret-face. I'm losing you to my little sister."

"Nah, you can keep it. But you might be able to talk me into ferret-sitting every now and then."
Because it is adorbs. "Hey! That tickles."

"Shit. I need to go to a pet store. How the hell do you even take care of a ferret?" That is the question, isn't it?

The ferret skitters down Claud's arm, across the table, and goes back to curling up on Joshua's shoulder. It's realized he is feeling a bit left out.

"Ask the Bar for a book? Worked out okay for the dodo."

"That's a thing. I could probably also google it when I get home. It's not as if I don't know how to use the interwebs."

Claudia snorts. "Yeah, and you'll find things about the proper care and feeding of ferrets on the Tubes."

"I bet there's very little about the care and feeding of dodos on the interwebs." Joshua laughs, scritching the ferret a bit. "I was actually thinking of getting a pet anyway. Guess one found me."

"Our interwebs, anyway. Seems they're actually pretty popular pets in some world or other, so their interwebs probably have a lot."
She grins, and reaches over to scritch the ferret again. "Guess it did."

"Huh. Now I wish we could find other worlds' internets. That would be so awesome." Joshua leans back, thinking for a moment and a huge grin crosses his face.

"I don't think even I'm that good of a hacker, but it would be pretty damn cool."

"Hey. You are that good of a hacker. I just think there are things that are just impossible." He shakes his head, and scritches the ferret a bit. "Frankly, I really wish we could get some internets on here."

Claudia laughs. "Oh, if we got Internet in here it'd be a goddamn cake walk."

"I wonder. There has to be some way to get internets in here." Joshua thinks for a moment. "I mean, you got better cell phone service in the Warehouse. This can't be that bad, can it?"

"If you're not careful that's going to sound like a challenge. Might ask about it if I see someone around who'd know."
It's a challenge she'd have a lot of fun with. And... probably get all the headaches from.

"Perhaps it is a challenge, little sister." Joshua smirks. "You'd be up for a challenge, wouldn't you?"

"I thought that went without saying."
She did hack into Super Secretville, after all. A couple times. Most of them were even after she started working there!

"Hey, I have to challenge you every so often." Joshua just grins. "Not necessarily high priority, but hey. If you get bored or something."
