"Good to meet you, Cecil." Joshua smiles. "Didn't think I had that kind of strange luck, but you never know around here. What do you do back home? And where and when is home?"

"My home is Night Vale," Cecil says, "and it's a Monday in August unless the calendar has had another scheduling problem.

"I work in community radio.

"What do you do?"

"People actually come from quite a few different times and places, so I generally ask. I live in Univille, South Dakota, and it's 2012 for me back home." He pauses. "I do scientific research on, er, things that don't do what they're supposed to." Artifacts, man.

"I think," Cecil says, "when something does what we think it's not supposed to, it's only because we haven't thought of that function yet."
