So there's a girl with one hand in a bowl of ice water and the other holding a fork that she's using to deconstruct a rhubarb pie, while reading her book, which is propped up against the napkin dispenser.

It's been a moderately horrid day. Time spent with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is called for.

"Singed myself a bit. Comes with being clumsy." And trying to repair and/or survey the damage on something she doesn't entirely understand, which didn't help anything.

"Want me to fix it up?" he offers. "Minor injuries are easy."

[souffle_girlek]

'Say what again?' says her expression, as she gives him a deeply dubious look.

[street_sparrow]

"Healing", he says with a grin. "You must've met people here who can heal. Unless you've only just arrived."

[souffle_girlek]

"As far as I know, healing is part of being alive - healing or, y'know, not an dying, right?" She asks, already sounding pretty sure that's not what the kid is talking about.

Also, still deeply, deeply dubious about the whole thing.

"Yes", he allows, "there's healing yourself the natural way that almost everybody does. But some of us here can heal other people."

He seems to have drifted away from focusing on the offer, into simple explanation.

"... Which would be doctors, yeah?" Which aren't the same as Doctors, though she's not really sure what she'd do with one of those at the moment. Most likely hide under the table until they went away.

[street_sparrow]

"...there are doctors", he tries again. "But their healing still depends on the natural way and takes time. It doesn't have to."

[souffle_girlek]

"So you're saying you're relying on an unnatural way. Not exactly building confidence here." She points out, her expression going a bit wary.

[street_sparrow]

Gavroche shrugs.

"It wouldn't do you any harm. It's just quicker, gets rid of the pain in seconds instead of days. If you'd rather not, okay."

[souffle_girlek]

"It's just... I don't even know you." And she learned wariness as a crash course affair, literally.

[street_sparrow]

"...true." He realises, somewhat sheepishly, "I didn't even introduce myself, did I? I'm Gavroche."

[souffle_girlek]

"Hello, Gavroche. I'm Oswin." That's... a little better. Still. "I'm guessing you aren't new."

And that he has a door, something she is unbelievably jealous of.

[street_sparrow]

"Hello, Oswin, nice to meet you." He smiles hopefully. "No, I've been coming here for years. And you?"

"For a few months." She replies, with an arched eyebrow - maybe she isn't as firmly entrenched as he is, but she's not new.

[street_sparrow]

Gavroche nods and says easily, "Not a total newcomer, then. How're you settling in?"

[souffle_girlek]

"Fairly well, thank you." When the alternative is... well, what she's got, Milliways is perfect.

[street_sparrow]

"Good", he says sincerely. "Some people just don't take it well at all."
