Joshua's been in the bar for a while, papers spread around him. However, recently he has been joined by a girl with long blonde hair and a smirky-confused expression.

"Why does a repository need protecting?"

"Huh?"

Valentine points at his t-minus sitting on the table. "Repository Protector."

"Well, it's got a lot of important stuff...."

"Ah. Flaily and repository. You must be Claudia's brother."

"Is it that obvious?"

"Yes."

Joshua Donovan and Valentine Wiggin in the bar, ladies and gents, talking up a storm.

"...Now this is gonna be an interesting combination of people."
Says the third interesting one in the group. (She has a box of Farnsworth parts with her, but she's not working. Right now is sandwich time.)

"And why would that be, Claudia?" Valentine's grinning, obviously in the middle of some fascinating conversation. "I didn't realize your brother was that interesting."

"I'm not interesting, I just talk about shit." Joshua shrugs. "Val and I were just talking about Artifacts and philotics." That might be a huge grin on his face.

"Nice sarcasm there, Val." Claudia rolls her eyes and pulls up a chair.
"Joshua, shut up, you're interesting and you know it. This giving you any bonus insight into your research?"

Val grins. "Hey, I've learned from a sarcasm master. Sometimes I wonder if Peter knows how to deliver a line straight."

"Well, she did mention a few things." He's beaming. "But, uh, I think I got a bit... over-enthusiastic and technical."

"I doubt it's the end of the world, brother dear. She's a smart kid, she can keep up."
She's an honorary Donovan, as far as Claudia's concerned.

Valentine beams. "I like hearing about your theories of science in your world, Joshua. It sounds familiar to some of the rumours I've heard about things the IF is doing. She's right, Joshua, I'm smarter than I look. Science might not be my thing, but I can keep up."

"I wasn't meaning that you weren't smart!" Joshua flails a bit. "I just... haven't dealt with extremely smart kids in a while! Give me a break!"

Claudia rubs her thumb and forefinger together. "World's smallest violin. God knows I gave you plenty of practice."

Val gigglefits. "Oh, I like that one, Claudia. I might have to remember that."

"Oh, great. There are two of you now." Joshua rolls his eyes and throws a bit of paper at his sister. The paper's part of a case report on... something.

A case report Pete wrote, judging from the terrible handwriting. Claudia squints at it for a few moments, then laughs. "Oh my god she made him write that up?"
Really, Mrs. F? Like it'll stop Pete from trying on other hats?
"Of course there are two of us. Did you expect anything different?"
(Just be glad they're not both twelve, Joshua.)

"Write what up?" Valentine peers at the paper, reading over Claud's shoulder. "Oh my frell..." She snortlaughs. "That... ok, I feel bad for that woman, but..."

Joshua shakes his head. "And then Mrs. F tried to tell me that I had to control him. No one can control Pete, not even his own mother."

"And no, Claud. I don't expect anything else."

"Good." Here, Joshua, have one shit-eating grin from your little sister.
"The thing Pete forgot to factor in is... Mrs. F's been around in her current capacity for at least 50 years, probably longer. Trying to free her? Could very well have been personal."

"Oh shit." Valentine blinks a couple times. "You are that far in the past, aren't you? Slavery was actually not that far in the past for you. Well, as not far as over a hundred years can be."

"Well, it's closer to a hundred and fifty years, but Mrs. F. has been around since the stone Ages." He pauses, with a smirk of his own. "Makes Artie look like a youngun."

"And yet she's aged better, which is to say 'not at all.'" Sorry, Val. It's complicated.
"If it is personal for her, I'd guess barely or previous-generation, and she's easily the last person around who can make that claim. But still."

"Your world is so weird." Val shakes her head. "I guess I should just not think too hard about it, right?" She steals one of Joshua's files. "Ok, when you're reading about how to clean a tub of goo, you officially need to take a break."

"Hey!" Joshua flails at it, a confused face. "How the fuck'd that get in there?"

"Brother dear, when's the last time you bagged your caffeine thingy?"
And why does that whammy seem to follow him everywhere?

Valentine shakes her head. "Caffeine or not, you need something else to think about." She pauses, wrinkling her nose. "What is there to do around here?"

"Doesn't matter." Joshua shrugs, turning his attention away from his little sister. "Well, there are card games hanging around. Don't know what's around in your time that we'd know."

Claudia smirks. "You say that like we can't teach her Munchkin or poker or something."

"Well, I do know Poker. I've beaten Peter more often than not." She smirks. "But what is Munchkin?"

"It's actually easier to show than explain." Joshua shrugs. "I'd be up for some poker, though."

"Are you guys seriously gonna make me pick?" She's not really upset, though.
"I think I'm feeling Munchkin more, but maybe not the set upstairs."
