EP: Kate Barlow | Main Bar, Library (age spell plot)
It had been a quiet day for Kate when the loud BWA-BOOOOOOOM shook the bar. She'd just settled down after her nightly chores in the stables, easing the tension out of her back in an armchair by the fire, sipping on a hot tea with bourbon in.
(It's getting close to All Hallows' Eve, and that's making her anxious.)
However, she didn't have all that long to think about the approaching holiday before she was seeing the room from an even lower vantage point, face scrunched in distaste at the liquor on her tongue. She blinked at the teacup and quickly set it down, jumped to her feet, and looked around the strange room.
" ... Daddy?"
Kate Barlow, aged twelve, was off in search of her father.
What she found instead were the libraries.
Now, far calmer, a young Kate sits amid a pile of books, occasionally sweeping cautious glances around the room. She's finding the words of Jules Verne to be a comfort at present. Clearly she slipped and bumped her head during chores, or stumbled onto a glorious vessel somewhere in deep space. She isn't quite sure what to make of it right now, but anywhere with an endless supply of science fiction can't be all that bad.
[ooc: open forever! you may find Kate in the library or the main bar. if your character wants to be in on a heist, they can take this opportunity to meet Kate. the actual heist will happen in a later post, so it's not required you tag this one (I'll update all interested parties once it's all in place). if you'd like me to send Kate round to one of your posts, just let me know!

"Do you mind?"
How rude!
no subject
"Sorry," he mumbles. He drops to the floor and starts gathering up some of the scattered books, even reaching across her legs to get one, and as he does, his shoulder knocks into another stack of books, sending them tumbling in a noisy heap.
Yeeeah.
no subject
"What are you doing?"
She is Viola, lost amid a sea of books, shipwrecked upon the isle of words.
no subject
As he attempts to make a new stack of books, it's too top heavy and just kind of topples over all over again.
He leaves the mess and sits back on his heels.
"--help."
no subject
"Well, cut it out! You're terrible at this. Didn't nobody ever teach you how to stack books before?"
no subject
"Why would I hafta learn how to stack books? That ain't a thing that I even hafta do! Only librarians stack books and I hate libraries."
no subject
She doesn't stick her tongue out, but it's possible it's implied in her tone of voice.
no subject
The tongue sticking out is implied here as well.
"Have you even seen anything else here except these boring old bookshelves?"
no subject
She sticks her chin out. Why is this place filled with boys with such big noses? Can't they mind their own business and stop picking on her?
"There's a lake, and lots'a fine horses, an' mountains, and a whole big saloon with all kinds of things! I just happen t'like books."
no subject
"There's a lake?"
Okay, so maybe Tommy hasn't explored as thoroughly as he thought he had. But if he hadn't made this detour into this stupid library, he might have found the back door by now.
no subject
Judgy Kate judges you.
no subject
"'Course I do, I know lots of stuff! I just ain't seen the lake yet, that's all! Jeez, you don't gotta be all snotty about it."
no subject
He had it coming. What's going to protect her from all the frightening things out there now?
no subject
He moves to get up.
"Stack your own books, I'm gonna go see the lake by myself."
no subject
"You have a dirty mouth!"
no subject
"You're damn right I do. S'matter? The word 'shit' hurts your ears?"
no subject
"Cut that out!"
no subject
"What, saying 'shit'? How 'bout 'goddamn'? Or even 'asshole'?"
no subject
"You shouldn't talk that way to a lady, boy! It ain't proper."
She pulls her knees up, like a jackrabbit getting ready to bolt.
no subject
"You ain't a lady, you're a girl."
OBVIOUSLY.
no subject
"It's the same thing, you ignoramus!"
no subject
DUH.
Also, he's aware that she just called him something, but he's going to ignore the fact that he has no idea what an ignoramus is.
no subject
She's practically an adult. She's got her own horse now and everything.
"You're just a boy, an' you won't ever change!"
no subject
Sure, she's two whole years olden than he is, but she doesn't have to know that. Instead he draws himself up to his full height (people have always told him that he's tall for his age) of a titch over five feet.
"And whaddya mean, I won't change? 'Course I'll change, I'm gonna get bigger an' taller an' older. An' you're tellin' me I don't know nothin'?"
no subject
"You may get bigger an' taller an' older, but you'll always be a boy. Just a boy who don't know a thing, 'cuz he don't like libraries!"
