EP: Kate Barlow | Main Bar, Library (age spell plot)

It had been a quiet day for Kate when the loud BWA-BOOOOOOOM shook the bar. She'd just settled down after her nightly chores in the stables, easing the tension out of her back in an armchair by the fire, sipping on a hot tea with bourbon in.

(It's getting close to All Hallows' Eve, and that's making her anxious.)

However, she didn't have all that long to think about the approaching holiday before she was seeing the room from an even lower vantage point, face scrunched in distaste at the liquor on her tongue. She blinked at the teacup and quickly set it down, jumped to her feet, and looked around the strange room.

" ... Daddy?"

Kate Barlow, aged twelve, was off in search of her father.

What she found instead were the libraries.

Now, far calmer, a young Kate sits amid a pile of books, occasionally sweeping cautious glances around the room. She's finding the words of Jules Verne to be a comfort at present. Clearly she slipped and bumped her head during chores, or stumbled onto a glorious vessel somewhere in deep space. She isn't quite sure what to make of it right now, but anywhere with an endless supply of science fiction can't be all that bad.

[ooc: open forever! you may find Kate in the library or the main bar. if your character wants to be in on a heist, they can take this opportunity to meet Kate. the actual heist will happen in a later post, so it's not required you tag this one (I'll update all interested parties once it's all in place). if you'd like me to send Kate round to one of your posts, just let me know!

"I shouldn't think so," Marian said, answering even as she was just looking up.

She had a very nice life, but she wasn't sure it was as nice as that. It was quite real. With needle point lessons and endless prattling in sitting rooms, when she wanted to be out seeing everything everywhere else, wanted to ask all the questions and know all the answers to the things everyone said wasn't proper for a young Lady.

But her smile was soft and cheerful when she spotted the girl surrounded by piles of books. Just the touch pertinent teasing coming out last. "Are you?"

"I am from Nottingham." It's sort of understated. Because maybe if she doesn't entirely, first of all, say who her father is, she will be on even footing with someone. Someone who wasn't pushy and gossipy, who wasn't pretending to be her friend and then frowning when she mentioned something about swords.

Someone who liked books. Who wouldn't treat her differently because of her Father.

Maybe, just for this moment, she can just be -- "I'm Marian. Who are you? Do you come here often?"

"It's very nice to make your acquaintance, Katherine."

"And, yes. It is." That's easy. But so is -- "And this is Milliways. This whole place."

Which comes with and sort of a nod off to where the doors and the endless wealth of other things and other people are. "I've been here once or twice before. It's safe--" Because that seemed a good thing to mention. "--and the people are very cordial. They call it a tavern, but it's a little like a castle, that isn't. They have rooms, and horses, and a lake with boats."

"Yes, thank you!" Comes out a little more bright and broad than refined, but youth is ever given to exuberance, which Marian had quite a bit of with bright, relieved smile. Marian making her way over and carefully avoiding displacing any of the book stacks Katherine had set up around her. Looking, without quite touching them, at the spines for a moment before back to Kate she continued.

"I-" There is the barest hesitation before Marian choose honesty over a grace her Nurse and Father have tried valiantly to make her side with more, but this girls looks nice and she's been honest, so Marian still can't see why people would choose it first. "-don't quite remember how I got here this time, either."

But, helpfully. "Usually it's through the door downstairs in the main part of the tavern."

It's is ever so nice, even if her Nurse might consider it naughty. Sitting on the floor surrounded everywhere by books, any next to a smiling face, even if there was nervousness curiosity in it, too. Out of more a reminder to herself, that comes far too many obvious seconds late to be direct habit she cared much about, Marian smoothed out her skirts around her.

"I haven't spent all that much time here. Just a few minutes each time. It's usually when I'm least expecting it." When she was chasing about Robin, and already breaking all the rules. But he vexed her so much. "I hadn't met anyone of my own peerage here. It's mostly been adults."

She'd paused, thinking herself done, before realizing maybe she hadn't been clear about that being a good thing. Circumspection was so complicated, and she found herself blurting out more earnestly, fingers tightening in the cloth of her skirt along with it. "But it is awfully nice to finally."

Marian's eye went a little wide, but her smile followed it, just as widely while she was nodding quickly. "Ever so much!"

A friend, in this strange, but magical place, who was a girl and she liked books. And so far they even seemed to like each other. Perhaps, it was not such a bad thing not to remember how she'd gotten here from home at all this time. Not in comparison to what she had found.
