Today, there is an older boy or young man (what they used to call 'a youth') at the harpsichord, playing Bach.

He's not quite at the level for a professional performance yet, but quite good nevertheless.

Ah. Bach.

"Red herr--no, not even slightly. That is a difficult way to mislead you; not everyone can snog on command," Autor says. "And if I ever am attracted to you, I will be less than subtle."

He adjusts his glasses, concentrating on banishing the last vestiges of his blush. "I'd love to ask you how in the hell you came to that conclusion, but I'd be disappointed if you laid it all out."

"You know," Hannibal says, "I might remember all this afterwards."

"Of course you will," Autor says, shaking his head. "That is worst-case scenario and it almost wouldn't be fun otherwise. You are learning just as much from me as I am from you."

"I am sure that we are destined for great things together that will almost certainly never involve any snogging again, ever," Hannibal smirks.

"Pfft, no. There'd be no point, right?" Autor says, and orders tea from a rat while watching the other boy. "You have your reaction already."

He sips the brew and raises his cup. "To destinies and the like. Something for you to look forward to learning about again."

"To destiny, drunk in tea," Hannibal says, smiling.
