party post: hail the conquering heroes | outside, tree fort

Anyone in the main barroom or out by the lake today will be treated to an odd sight. Dozens of girls, shouting, squealing, running through the backdoor and across the lawn, arms laden with all manner of treats — and one boy, tied up, pulled along with them.

The gang makes their way to the forest, where a tree fort rises above the ground. It's quite a fancy fort, equipped with slingshots, water balloon launchers, and other weaponry and defenses. The interior paneling has some Cybertronian script on it. There's a tire swing outside fashioned from a tractor tire, a crow's nest, and the entrance may be had by ladder, drawbridge, or manual elevator. Inside there are comics, pudding snacks, and the sort of things you'd expect to see in a tree house. It was clearly designed by somebody who really loved their gadgets, and knew what they were doing.

Kate and Natasha have seized the property. Being outlaws in need of a hideout, and all.

"This way!"

Natasha is already inside, leaving all entrances open to the returning posse and offering cover from anyone who might be following. Once the snacks are secured and the prisoner is dealt with, everyone can breathe a huge sigh of relief.

And enjoy the fruits of their labor.

This post is wide, wide open to everyone — boy, girl, adult, child, animal, mineral, etc. The girls will be inside the tree fort, but it's completely visible from the ground for any who want to stop by and see what's going on, or sneak their way in. ^__^

Kate doesn't know any Joshua, but they'll get to that later. She smiles at him.

"If you can climb up that branch from the tire swing, I'll bring you somethin' sweet."

"I can get there,"

He eyes the tree and then starts up it, he's done some tree climbing and only slips once.

Kate watches and claps enthusiastically, delighted at the fine job he does of it.

"Oh! Hold on!"

She disappears, suddenly thinking to call up to Natasha — who's currently in the crow's nest watching out for interlopers — so she doesn't try shooting him with pudding or anything like that. After a few moments, she climbs out the window, carefully walking along the branch to get to where he is.

When she goes up the tree again, he waits and tries to not worry too much.

Katherine's not half bad at climbing trees herself. It's hard to do in skirts, but she gets a lot of practice back home.

"Howdy!"

Soon enough she's within arm's reach, smiling shyly.

"Hello again. Can I help?" He doesn't want her to fall.

"Nope!"

She's as self-assured as ever. With a few more steps, she's found herself a decent fork where she can settle, legs swinging free.

As she sits, she produces two bottles of soda from behind her back.

"Take your pick. I brought some sweets in my pockets, too."

He looks them over, neither are flavors he's had before and he considers, "Um, the peach, please."

"Good choice. Peach is my favorite."

She passes him the bottle and keeps the sarsaparilla for herself. Producing a small handful of wrapped chocolates from her pocket with her now free hand, she offers him first pick again.

"Didja see us back there? Inside the saloon, I mean."

"I did and heard you too. You must have got a lot of stuff,"

Their happiness in pulling it off almost knocked him over and he takes a small handful of chocolates.

She grins.

"We did! We got an awful lot, enough for all of us to share an' still have plenty. It was my very first heist."

She's fit to burst she's so proud.

"It must have been wonderful. Thank you for letting me have some loot."

Kate tips an imaginary hat.

"'Course, pardner."

Her cheeks turn pink.

He grins and leans up to kiss her cheek then hurries down the tree.

Kate, entirely stunned, sits stock still for a long time after he scurries away. She's beet red, toes curled inside her shoes, fingers turned white against her bottle of soda.

Oh. Oh, goodness me oh my. She hadn't been expecting that, but she — well, she certainly isn't upset it happened.

She bites her lip, feet swinging a little more as she watches Charles slip away.
