Ludwig pins a sheet of music to the noticeboard, with a note.

"I knew Charlie...not well, but I knew him. This is the least I can do for his memory. Anyone who wishes to sing it at his funeral will be welcome to."

It is a short song, set to the words of the final verse of Goethe's poem At Midnight:

"Until at last the full moon made a rift,
So bright, so clear within the dark of me,
And even thought, grown willing, limber, swift
