Tarot card in bar!

You haven't seen him often, lately; and you're not likely to see him again.

But tonight, Tower is in the bar, in his usual shape of a middle-aged man, shuffling idly through his favourite deck of tarot cards, brownish red and gold, the images oddly Christian, full of saints and biblical legends in Eastern icon style.

Tower is smoking a big cigar, and drinking scotch, while pondering his cards. If you talk to him, he's likely to offer you to draw a card for you, to see what you'll have to look out for in this new(ish) year.

Daoud watches the cards move, watching the beautiful gold icons, so like those he has seen in the great Christian churches. "Sir, your icons are most beautiful." The gold halo of the Mary figure for which his mother was named holds his eye more than any other, trying to hold the image in his memory.

"They are cards," the man says. "But they most likely didn't exist like taht in your time yet."

He nods, taking the man's word for it. "The art, I have seen such things on the walls of the great basilica, made of painted gold and glass. They are beautiful. They make me feel closer to my father's god."

"How much do you know about him, I wonder?" the man says. "But these cards aren't made for worship, they are made for divination, or rather, to make sense of your own story. In combination, they tell all the tales there may be."

"That he was a man at arms of Robert of Normandy's forces. I... do not know his name."

"They are very beautiful. Divination? Are you gifted in such an art?"

"I am one of those cards, personified," the man says.

"Truly?" His eyes grow wide. "Make I ask which of the cards you personify?"

"The Tower," Tower says, pointing at the card.

"Ooooh, that's a lovely deck!" Joshua stops, examining the cards. "I wish I had one that awesome. Granted, the deck I use is... a Bar special."

Warehouse Tarot can get a bit odd.

"How that?" Tower says, looking up from his deck.

The red-haired man in the gray suit notices the cards. "Orthodox icons? That's not a style I'd expect to see used for Tarot."

Then he turns an attentive eye on the fellow shuffling the cards. "And I'm surprised you need them, the way you radiate in the mana-primal end of the aetheric spectrum."

"Nice posh way of putting it," Tower grins. "I like to play with them, and this deck is very pretty. And unusual -- not your common or garden New Age mumbo-jumbo."

"This is a fact. I'm Michael Donighal, by the way." He holds out a hand for shaking.

"I'm the Tower," Tower says, shaking the hand.

[md_donighal]

"...that explains why you shine so brightly in the primal. The only brighter folken I've seen here have been the Endless and that pale fellow who's usually a cat." Half-smile. "I'd say I thought you'd be taller, but I imagine you have to make some compromises to fit into this place. I can certainly relate."

"There haven't been any Endless here in a long time," Tower says, "and none of my siblings come any more at the moment, either. I haven't been back for ages."

Beat.

"You mean Yrael."

"Is that his name, then? Yrael? I've always been wary of approaching somebody made of that much energy, whether as man, woman or cat; too much risk to innocent bystanders if things got ugly between us. Is he a current or former angel, or does he just have that sort of a name?

"And you're right, I haven't seen the Endless about in quite a few yonks, and I'm ashamed to admit I never noticed any other Tarot personifications. Were there any minor arcana among the guests, or only your fellow majors?"

"He's a Bright Shiner; different set of archetypes entirely," Tower says. "And there have been both minor and major siblings of mine here. Many people remember Ruin, for example, the Ten of Swords. Between you an me, he is an utter jerk."

Garyn is seated with his back to the wall, smoking his pipe, filling the air with the smell of bottom-shelf hackle-lo. He exhales deeply, his red eyes distinctly visible behind the cloud of smoke.

"That's an interesting deck," he says. "Would I know the game?"

"Tarot," the man says. "You can play all sorts of games with them, as well as story-telling and divination."

[moonandstar]

"Never heard of it," Garyn says. "But then, I don't gamble. Much."

Relying on divination is in a similar boat to gambling. You never know whether you're talking to a genuine mystic or a fraud.

"Though I rather suspect this must be an Earth game."

"It is," he says. "And you're nto from Earth."

"I am part of that distinct minority here who is not," Garyn says.

"Nirn is the name of my world. And Garyn is my name."

[destroy_restart]

"I'm Tower," he says. "And it's good to sometimes see nonhumans; the humans become too complacent. What's this with the nonhuman anyway; we could just as well subsume everyone else under 'non-Nirnian', could we?"

"There's no shortage of humans in Tamriel," Garyn says.

He takes a long drag from his pipe.

"Not any named 'Tower' that I can recall. Where I'm from that's the name of a constellation, not a man. Not meaning to speak ill of it, of course. Is it the name you were born with?"
