"You got any of that 'waking' brew to offer, I'd be lookin' to trade," Shephard says.

Seriously. It's a world where they used up all the coffee and all the tea at least a decade ago. No offense to acorns and chicory but they are so not the same.

"I can also make you blend stronger still if you wish? I have discovered a bean of the Ethiop that when roasted makes a bitter but stimulating drink." And lo, Olivier has discovered coffee!

One of the lesser-known vices of many, many Marines, prior to the Combine, was an almost ungodly affection for energy drinks and other stimulant beverages. Shephard is currently living in a world where the only reliable source of caffeine is the good will and trade of the Sateré-Mawé, since they managed to preserve the guaraná plant in sufficient quantity. Sure, he could get coffee from the Bar, but hell, this is someone he knows, and you turn to your friends and neighbors before you turn to magic.

There will also be a blessing once she figures out the best one for him as those that tend the earth she considers hers.

He bows deeply to her. "I am Olivier de Bretagne of the Free City of Antioch. From the year of our lord 1131 and the age known as the First Crusade."

She nods at the mention of his god and holds out to him a purse.

She's not sure she's up for company, but Olivier..for being a kid, she could talk to him like one of her own. As much as part of her felt otherwise, she didn't want to totally be alone at the moment.
"How much for Waking?" Really she looks like she needs the exact opposite, but she's not sure she could bring herself to sleep at the moment.

"Yeah..I'm hurt..sometimes it comes with the assignments." There's a sharpness to her tongue that comes before she could stop herself-reflex from exhaustion and a combination of physical and emotional pain.
She takes a deep breath. "Thanks..if you have anything for pain, that would be awesome." It's likely what she took before this was already starting to wear off.

It wasn't a common drug from her time, but she'd smelled something similar in Milliways before. That they'd just had a drug and weapons bust made it almost ironic. "See why you'd only tell me to take a drop."
She set it aside the tea mug, not entirely sure she was ready for sleep just yet-even if it meant a break from pain. "Don't..don't mind me. Things have been...rough..back through the door. If I snap, don't take it personally."
