 Elrond entered wearing a covered basket and placed it with Bar as he took a walk outside.
He had reached the chests and boxes that Arwen had not taken with her to Gondor and had found himself in need of a small respite before he opened them.

And so he came here. To walk in the garden and the Forest and later to sit by a table with a glass of wine and a plate of bread and cheese and apple slices. And later still to see to some mending, a small needle glinting in the firelight as he restitched frayed hems and darned socks. The winter has been long and hard and it shows. And once you have learned how to do these things (even if wives and daughters have taken over since then - and so this is a bittersweet activity in its own right) you never forget.

Catch him inside or out.

Olivier is out in the garden, clearing his little plot and tending his plants. He smiles warmly when he sees Elrond, greeting him with a sprig of fragrant jasmine.

Elrond takes the offered sprig and enjoys the scent, eyes half-closed.

Then he nods at the plot. "Is this yours?" Elves always have time to speak of growing things.

"In so much as anything belongs to anyone here, yes. This is the earth I tend." And he's clearly very proud of his little garden.

Which is just the kind of sentiment an elf can get behind.

"The plants seem to appreciate the effort," Elrond says with a smile, letting a gentle hand glide across the nearest plant .

"I hope so. I care for them to the best of my ability." He smiles and runs his own fingers over the jasmine, realising a sweet wave of scent. "This was a gift from a great lady of nature, Lady Demeter, the goddess of harvest." He still feels dazed to have been in her presence.

Elrond smiles. He remembers coming before the Powers, making his choice.

"It is beautiful,"he says. "I have seen trees Yavanna, she of things growing, had song to. There is a light to them."

As indeed there is to all growing things. But easier to see.

"Is she a deity of your people?" He asks with interest.

"She is one of the Valar, the Powers that helped shape the world," Elrond answers.

"I have spoken with others about deities and gods, but I do not think it is quite the same. Javert and Valjean have told me of the building they are making and while there are some similarities it seems to me that there are also many differences between what I know and what they describe."

"They are building a chapel to the Christian god. I would like to help but I am not sure they desire my help."

"I worship the Christian god but I was born to the god of Islam called Allah. But I believe there are many gods and each give care to those who worship them."

There's a boy out in the garden as well.

Well, more than a boy if one can sense those sort of things. But on the surface, a boy. He's working the area that blooms into beautiful sunflowers in the summer, a tune on his lips.

"Oh guy in the sky, please grant a gift to our friend who's about to set off on an adventure," he sings to himself. "How much time we wasted laughing together but, guy in the sky, how we loved that wasted time and all of those helpless smiles."

Elves are very sensitive to any number of things. The movements of the wind in the leaves, the whispers upon the wind, the shifting on shadows beneath faces.

The sunflowers are beautiful enough to put a smile on anyone's face. And so Elrond is smiling. Even if the premise of the song is somehow lost on him.

Shifting shadows sometimes apply. Though it helps to accept that dark is not the same as bad.

The song itself is guided by the headphones on the gardener's ears, so Elrond's only hearing part of it. But once he turns and notices he's not alone in the garden, though he wasn't alone in the first place, he pulls the headphones down to sit around his neck.

"Hello."

"Hello," Elrond replies.
Considering who he is and the world he lives in, he has a fairly balanced view of the relative nature of good and evil. Growing up with the Sons of Feanor might do that to you.

"Are those like the machines that can - play back music?" It's a thing that plays music. He is instantly interested .

"Ah, yes!" Lucas answers, taking off his headphones and holding them up. "Would you like to listen? It's music a friend of mine made."

Elrond accepts the offered headphones and holds them up to his ears. Not too close though. Many of Milliways' denizens seem to favor very loud music.
He, as a general rule, does not.

It's possible he'll be pleased with the smooth jazz coming from the device at a reasonable level. Ever since Lucas learned the rainbow meditation technique from Sasha, he's gotten into the habit of listening to things a bit quieter.

He's able to hear the end of the somewhat melancholic Bon Voyage Amigo right before the player goes into a more upbeat instrumental.

His smile seems to indicate that he does enjoy it.

"It is very different,"he says. "But it is good. And it is made by friends of yours?"

It's been forever since Clementine's seen Elrond; she bustles up to him in a rush just to make sure they can talk. "Well, hello stranger!"

He looks up and smiles, genuinely pleased to see her.

"Hello Clementine. Yes, it has been too long."

[hey35andholding]

"It has, hasn't it?" she says, grinning. "That was twelve dye jobs and a DUI ago for me. So, catch me up! What's been going on back home?"

[starrydome]

She says so many things that are completely foreign to him.
It's wonderful.

"Winter is coming to an end, finally. It was harsh this year. I am sorting through things and getting ready to travel. In a year or two, we should be ready."

He'd probably be thankful for the slang barrier, were he ever to figure out what she's talking about.

Shock twists her features when he tells her how long he'll be working. "You're taking a whole year just to plan for one trip?"

[starrydome]

"I am leaving my home for good," he explains, kindly. "And I have lived there for thousand of years . There are many things to sort through before I leave it in the hands of my sons."

"Wow," she remarks. "You're still going to come here, aren't you?"

[starrydome]

"I dont know,"he says. Quetly.
"I shall miss this place and the friends I have made here sorely, if I will not be able to come here any longer."
