Gavroche is around, as he so often is. Tonight, though, he's waiting.

For Eponine, for Valjean, for Javert... just waiting.

This is not who he was waiting for. No Éponine, no Valjean, no Javert.

Simply Father Harman, carrying books and a laptop computer.

"Good evening, Gavroche," he says.

Pause.

"You look worried."

[street_sparrow]

"I'm hoping for my sister to come back", he says quietly. "Or Javert and Valjean."

"I'm sorry to hear they haven't yet," Father Harman says.

In the book, they all died. But then, this is Milliways.

Here, Gavroche got to live again and grow up.

Everyone dies, he knows that - but in Milliways, death isn't the end.

"I was hoping it wouldn't be long. At least for Eponine."

"When did she leave?" Father Harman asks.

[street_sparrow]

"Sunday. She left me a note."

[witchfinder_general]

"It's only Thursday," Father Harman says. "And we know the bar and her ways. Time happens to other people."

[street_sparrow]

"Yeah, but... waiting's horrible", he says miserably.

[witchfinder_general]

"I know," Father Harman says, gently. "Which is why we usually do something, anything, instead of just waiting."

[street_sparrow]

"She told me not to follow her... but I couldn't if I tried. And I did."

[witchfinder_general]

"What could you or would you do if you were there?" Father Harman asks, sympathy still obvious in his voice.

Eric walks past Gavroche and sits down at a table. He seems preoccupied, face pale and closed.

He is in black again, jeans and a T-shirt.

Gavroche glances up, emerging from his own preoccupation for a moment, and gives Eric a warily polite nod of greeting.

(He knows a vampire when he sees one, even if he doesn't know this is that vampire.)

Eric either misses the nod or ignores it.

He gets a pad and a pen from one of the rats and spends some time writing lists and what appears to be a note.

Then he flags down another rat and hands it the note , asking it to make sure that Jay gets it.

[street_sparrow]

That, he hears.

"He's in the infirmary", he says, intending it to carry to Eric's ears. "The rat should find him there."

Eric looks over at him, frowning a little.

"He is? That's unfortunate," he says.

Now the last part of the security system installation will be postponed. That's annoying.

[street_sparrow]

"Very", Gavroche agrees. "I'm going to need to have a talk with him about nutrition."

[onceaviking]

Eric looks at him.
Blankly.

Then he says, "That is probably a good idea," and turns his attention back to his list.

[street_sparrow]

Gavroche eyes him.

After a few moments, "How do you know him?"

[onceaviking]

"He's making something for me," Eric says, looking up and over at Gavroche.

"Though I fail to see," he adds, pleasantly, " how it's any of your concern."

[street_sparrow]

"He's a friend", Gavroche says flatly. "It was just a question."
