The door opens, and Father Harman rushes in. For once, he's not carrying any research material, simply an empty cake plate.

Once he is inside, he stops and turns around, as if looking for somebody.

"Father?" Olivier calls, stepping to the door to greet him. "It all well with you?"

"Not completely," Father Harman says, "but in a way, things are even less complicated than they were. However, we never get rid of a problem without opening up another one somewhere."

Olivier looks confused. "Oh. Is there anything I can help with?"

[witchfinder_general]

"Thank you," Father Harman says. "It's not something that can be chased away with herbs, this time. Thank you again for last time; it was very helpful and kind."

"I am glad to be of assistance in any way I can. Be it as a herbalist, a warrior or as a friend."

[witchfinder_general]

"I don't foresee the need for a warrior with a sword any tome soon," Father Harman says. "But for the other two, I'm very grateful."

"I hope never to need my sword here. This should always be a place of peace and sanctuary but my services as both friend and healer are always yours."

"Unless you join Security or there is a very bad emergency, you're not even supposed to need your sword," Father Harman says. "They make that abundantly clear."

In his own case, though, it had been a gun.

"That is well. They are the protectors of this place. I would not wish to overstep my mark."

"You are doing your very best to be what people want you to be, and fit in wherever you go, don't you?" Father Harman says, quietly.

Olivier's eternally bright facade drops for a moment, as does his voice. "I am a mongrel, Father. A half-breed, a child of two races. For all my lord may honour my good works, there are many would will never see me as worthy or equal. What way I make in the world I must make for myself. So yes, I do all I may to make myself regarded and accepted."

"That is an advantage," Father Harman says. "Because you're from two cultures, it might be much easier for you to adapt to yet another one. Less things are a matter of course for you, so if they're done differently, you're less likely to be culture-shocked."

Behind the façade of the cheerful youth is a very aware young man. "I suspect coming here from a young age gives me somewhat of an advantage also."

"I'm sure it does," Father Harman says. "Whoever is used to Millways won't get easily scared by anything else others might find strange."

[equal_of_any_man]

"I have walked the paths known to few, tasted treats and leant wisdom behind the reckoning of my age. I will face my future undaunted." Olivier is steel behind his smiles.

"That is a way of putting it," Father Harman says.

"How would you put it, Father?" He asks softly.

[witchfinder_general]

"You're largely culture shock proof," Father Harman says, smiling.

[equal_of_any_man]

"That of all things, yes I am."

[witchfinder_general]

"That means you can imagine an outside view on everything that goes without saying to your contemporaries," Father Harman says. "You will do well in England, or wherever you might end up."

"Thank you, Father. I hope I will live up to your expectations of me." He ducks a bow and turns to take his leave.

"Until the next time, Olivier," Father Harman says, cheerfully.
