Quick and easy

The Fool, being in one of his his moods, has put a sign up on the table next to him.

The sign reads simply, "Get answers to any question you have. Guaranteed."

In the meantime the Fool is playing solitaire with a deck of Tarot cards.

"That looks like fun." Minx smiles, watching him play with the card. "Are you a fortune teller?"

"I am at times," he says, still moving cards around on the table. It looks like he might be losing.

"Only at time?" She smiles, slightly teasingly. She watches the cards, admiring the art. "So what sort of questions do you answer?"

[forgottenmotley]

"Yes, only at times. Other times I am other things."

One of the cards - the Fool, which has been flipped over once or twice but not held - looks like him.

"What questions do you have that need answering?"

Minx doesn't miss that. She has a knack for noticing things like that.

She isn't sure what to make of him but she's willing to play along. "I have two friends, two work colleges who are perfect for each other. I was wondering if they'll ever work that out for themselves or if they need a nudge."

[forgottenmotley]

"Ah. Love. That is always a tricky question. Especially if you are the one who thinks they're perfect for each other and not them."

Only a fool would miss things like that. It's good she's not one.

"I'm not the only one with thinks it but I am the one who wonders how long it will take them to work it out." She smiles.

"Is the guarantee for the correctness of the answer, or only for its existence?" Because Bossuet is good at answering questions, too!

"That's part of the game, now isn't it?" The Fool says, his eyes glowing with amusement.

He puts the cards down though and shuffles them back together.

"As that's not much of an answer, I'm going to trust that it also didn't count as a question. --The last time I saw a fortune-teller, she told me to take my money back and buy a drink instead. But she was a reader of palms. How do your cards work?"

"Each card has a symbolic meaning, the images and icons represent various aspects of human nature. There's the overall meaning of a card and then what they mean when applied to a certain person. There are various ways to layout the cards. And their positions refer to various parts of a person's life or possible guidance to a question the person might have. A three card spread would be the past, the present and the future, for example."

He spreads the cards out face down and then flips one over. It's the six of rods.

"And what's that one?" Bossuet is keenly aware of his persistent, reliable bad luck, and also of having a rather important project in hand.

He...he probably shouldn't even be thinking about fortune-telling. But it's curious stuff.

The card is looked at thoughtfully. "Balance. A physical victory when you can enjoy the spoils of war."

He spins it. "But that's just on its own. It could mean other things with other cards."

"That sounds almost promising," he says doubtfully. "Surely the other cards will contradict it."

[forgottenmotley]

"They might or might not. But this card is one alone. One I pulled just for you. We weren't asking questions, we were giving explanations."

[tire_moi_mes_bottes]

"Fair point." Bossuet hesitates a moment, then shakes his head. "I think I had better not ask. But thank you for the explanation."
