Bonnie climbs over some of the junk in her back yard, through an old gatepost with no gate, into the bar. Just ahead of her, two furiously squawking chickens make a break for freedom.

"Get yer ass here, Norton." she mutters, slowly approaching the cockerel. "Or it's drumsticks fer you."

The second chicken ducks under the nearest table, and makes suspicious clucking noises.

"Here, let me - " Michael leans down and, with a swift snatching movement, grabs the chicken off the floor from behind.

"Why thank you." Bonnie starts cornering the second one.

"Rescued the little buggers from bein' kept in a tiny cage, I guess they're appreciatin' their freedom."

"And not trusting it to last, I'd guess. You're going to keep them free range?"

"Eventually, at the moment I'm just tryin' ter make sure they don't get eaten by the wildlife." Bonnie says. "Once I got 'em settled, I'm gonna build 'em a big run. They's nestin' under a cart right now."

Michael nods. "And foxes are too smart, they'll get around that given half a chance."

"Yeah, by the end of the day they'll have a hen house." Bonnie says. "I got a rabbit hutch I can use fer starters."

"Assuming you can catch that other one", he says, amused. "I'd help, but I need my other arm."

"Oh sure I can, I'm just hopin' it don't crap everywhere."

Bonnie skirts around the table, and manages to catch the second chicken.

"C'mon Harlie, yer cage days are over."

"Harlie and Norton? Unusual names for chickens."

"Well Norton's a boy, Harlie I spelled with an ie." Bonnie says. "They're types of motorbike."

" - oh, of course. Harley, everyone knows, but Norton, I'm sorry, I'm not up to speed with bikes."

"That's okay, probably before yer time."

"Might well be." He peers at the chicken under his arm. "So where am I putting this one?"

"Maybe we need a temporary crate until I get 'em back." Bonnie says. "Or we could chuck'em through the door and let time stop, but then I got to catch 'em the other side."

"What's the other side like for hiding places?"

"Er... pretty full of cars and stuff." Bonnie says.

"...yeah, the temporary crate might be a better bet."

"They'll have a proper run by tonight, so they won't be in long." Bonnie says, getting a generous sized crate from the bar.

"And that gives them room to move a bit", he says with approval. "Comfortable to sleep in, too."

"The cage I spotted 'em in, they couldn't even spread their wings." Bonnie says in disgust. "So I told 'em they could let me buy 'em or I could call the authorities."

"That's already illegal in your time, then? Good. I'd have called the authorities anyway."

"If it ain't, it should be." Bonnie says. "And they didn' know that anyhow."

"True enough. Nothing wrong with a bluff if it works."

"Usually I jus' threaten ter have forty bikers park on their drive."

Michael laughs. "Very effective, I'm sure."

"Sure thing. Sometimes we get 'em singin'."

"Do they have good voices?"

"Some of 'em do, sure. If not, we get 'em doin' percussion."

"Until... you get whatever it is you came for?"

"I came in fer my chickens." Bonnie laughs.
