It's been a rather disruptive week, all in all. There wasn't any cornflakes, and then it was Dad picking him up from Summer School rather than Mum, and then Dad said something about him having a new brother.

Fry does not consider a new baby in the household to be any excuse for forgetting to buy cornflakes. But on the plus side, he rather likes Summer School.

He's currently sitting cross-legged on the floor, with a piece of paper he's filling in - he'd started drawing a police car in one box, but now in the same box he's drawing what looks like a Ford Cortina.

"Fry!" Mairi skips over, coming to a stop out of arm's reach so Fry knows she won't touch him. "You've got a new pre-beta! - What's that?"

"Pre-beta?"

Fry looks up.

"In Summer School we're making these to stick on our fronts so we can see what everyone likes to talk about. I've got 'Police', 'Maths', 'Video games' and 'Animals'."

"Well, Uncle Enzo said he came out of alpha too early, and his code still needs debugging before he can go into beta. So he's pre-beta, see?"

Mairi nods. "Neat!" Then she frowns. "... video games?"

"Oh yes, he's premature." Fry says. "Don't worry, Enzo said our computers don't have sprites in."

"Oh!" Mairi visibly relaxes, the almost unnoticeable glow of an unconscious shield vanishing.

"What kind of games do you like to play? I like finding games, but Daddy took me to play jetball recently, and that's fun! It's like finding things, but they're going past you really fast! But Daddy says it's cheating to use shields to grab them."

"I like maths games." Fry says. "And Ethan brought a racing game. Callum brought a scary game but his mum said he wasn't to play that with me again because I screamed a lot."

Remembering something from summer school about asking questions in return, he adds.

"What is jetball?"

"What kind of scary game?"

Racing games are fun! Well, racing games look fun. Mairi hasn't actually been allowed to go circuit-racing yet.

"It's a team game, but Daddy and I played it one-on-one. You get a jetpack - which is so weird, it doesn't fly like I do - and you've got a goal to defend. So when the ball drops on the court, you gotta try to grab it - but grabbing it freezes you in place - that was so annoying, I kept flying for real when it did that, but Daddy wouldn't let my scores count when I did. So you're frozen, and the other person is moving, and you've got to try to send the ball into their goal. As soon as you shoot it, you can move again."

"Huh. Like netball crossed with quidditch."

"What's netball?"

"You have to throw a ball through a net and you can't move your feet when you hold it."

"Do you play netball?" Mairi lights up a little bit, unintentionally.

"No." Fry says. "I don't like balls, they move fast and hit you. They let me do dance instead but I don't really like that either and nobody wants to be my partner."

Mairi nods. "Dance? Like with arrows?"

She gets up and does a little demonstration. It is a very stomp-y dance.

"I thought it was going to be that, but it's just lots of moving around weirdly."

"Like how?"

"I don't want to do it."

"Okay." Mairi sits back down. "What kind of animals? I don't think I've ever seen a User animal."

"Haven't you seen a dog or a horse here?" Fry asks.

"... Probably?" Mairi waves her hand vaguely. "Mama says I've been compiling so rapidly I don't have a lot of memory storage from before my upgrade."

[ooc: aka the player forgot.]

"You lost your memory?" Fry blinks. "Where did it go?"

"Into other stuff!" She frowns, trying to figure out how to explain something she doesn't really understand herself.

"Did you run out of RAM?"

"Maybe?" Mairi shrugs. "Do you have a pony? I've seen them in the stables, and Daddy says they're in all sorts of games."

"No, rich kids have ponies."

"What do you have?"

"We have two cats and a dog." Fry says.

Mairi nods. She knows those! "Ana has a dog."

"The dog is quite old." Fry says.

"Is she not being updated anymore?"

"I don't think our dogs work that way."

"Okay." Mairi goes quiet for a while, thinking about number. Then she asks shyly, "Can I do one of those papers?"
