Nikola has been staying in the bar since he arrived a few days ago. There are a number of reasons for this. For one thing, being here always buys him valuable time on his research. For another, being in his own world is nothing more than a painful remind of what he isn't any longer.

Possibly also he's hoping to see some people he'd known here before. Possibly one someone in particular--but that's much more sentimentality than he would admit to.

At any rate, he makes his way to the bar this evening with a faint, self-assured smile. "Šljivovica , please, my dear."

Just because he can't have atlantean, doesn't mean he has to stick to wine.

The patron who just entered the bar from the New Orleans night may be smiling simply because he is having a good evening. He may be smiling because seeing the person he now sees always makes his evening better, and it has been too long. But he'll never tell which.

"Milliways is making an effort to attract a better class of patron than usual, I see," grins the Bright Shiner, approaching the genius at the bar. "I must say I approve."

If Nikola's self-assured smile deepens a bit at the sound of that voice, it is entirely due to the quality of his brandy.

"From my perspective, the quality of the clientele has hardly declined at all," he says, lifting his glass in greeting.

"Yet from mine, it has risen sharply just recently," Yrael smiles a catlike smile, inclining his head slightly in return greeting.

"Perhaps we should compare notes."

"Hmm, do you think it would be an interesting study?" Nikola asks, leaning toward the not'cat slightly, elbow resting on the bar.

Yrael insinuates himself onto the bar stool next to Nikola's, tilting his head with a smile. "Captivating."

Comfortable now, he leans slightly closer. "There is this brilliant scientist I used to know - you'd like him, I'm sure - he wouldn't be caught dead wasting his time on a boring study. But the bar hasn't deigned to bring him back in entirely too long."

It's a tragedy, really. Yrael is sure Nikola understands.

"I do miss the satisfaction that comes from good, thorough research."

Nikola most definitely understands.

"He sounds like a fascinating personality," he opines, lips curling a bit more upwards. "It's such a shame he's been missing from your life for so long."

"Years, alas," Yrael says, leaning back and resting his elbows on the bar. "And yes, he is tremendously fascinating. I have recently heard that in the version of Earth I visit, there is a science center being built in his honor. With a very fine statue out front."

"Of course, there is no way it could hold a candle to the real thing," his smirk ruins the attempt as a forlorn sigh. "I'm considering purchasing a commemorative brick."

Now he's just teasing.

"I would say that such a commemoration is likely long overdue," Nikola answers, a gleam in his eye that says he is honestly quite pleased to hear that.

"If you do purchase a brick, I'll go in with you on it."

Only fitting.

Yrael laughs. "We'll have to figure out what a fitting inscription would be."

"Something appropriately grateful for his scientific contributions, no doubt," Nikola agrees, grinning as well.

And then, finally, "Hello, mačkica."

"Oh, and you think there's a brick big enough for that?" Yrael chuckles, very fond, leaning in to kiss the genius. "Hello, Nikola."

Nikola leans into the kiss, his smile much warmer than usual.

"I think we could be sufficiently pithy to fit it onto the space required."

[ooc: Me too, actually, but I am so up for slowtimes. :D I've missed threading with you too!]

"Mmm," smiles Yrael. "We'll come up with something."

Probably something with a terrible pun, in an unbreakable code.

"It has been over a year since I last saw you. What have you been up to?"

In the Bright Shiner's mouth, the assumption that Nikola has been up to something sounds not accusatory but matter-of-fact. Yrael knows Nikola has plans he intends to see carried out. Plans Yrael would be interested in seeing come to fruition.

Eric walks up to the counter and asks for a glass of blood.
Tersely.

It appears and he drinks half of it in one go. Pulling a face.

Tall, dressed in black, pale. No heartbeat.

At the moment, Nikola is in no condition to notice the lack of heartbeat without getting much, much closer.

The blood, however, gets eyed somewhat wistfully as he sips his brandy.

Eric looks up and notices the wistful look.

That earns the man a slightly raised eyebrow,

Nikola makes a bit of a face at being caught out, and instead of answering the silent inquiry, he only raises his glass in a sort of greeting.

Eric answers the half toast in kind and takes another, smaller sip.

It's still disappointing. His face says as much.

And that is a look Nikola knows all too well, though he had always gotten excellent blood here.

"Not to your standards?" he asks.

"I'm not terribly picky," Eric replies, "but I do prefer it fresh."
Watching the man's face to gauge his reaction.

It looks as if he is not a stranger to blood drinkers.

Not at all a stranger, though not terribly used to conversing with one.

"Don't we all. Still, it's better here than most anywhere else."

Certainly better than the antelope Nikola ~~drinks~~ drank at home.

That gets him a slightly lifted eyebrow.

"We do?"

That's - novel.
But fascinating.

"So far as I've observed the trait," he amends with a shrug.

His heartbeat is very much present, and even the slight scent of blood that used to linger about him is no longer there.

"You often observe blood drinkers?" Eric asks.
"Where I am from, that would land you in trouble very quickly."

A beat.

"But I don't mind. Observe all you like."

Smiling.
He's got very strong, even teeth. No hint of visible fangs.
