The petite girl by the door sighs in frustration through her scarf, digs through the pocket of her pink cardigan, and pulls out a smartphone. She's got GPS or whatever on this thing, right?

..........and there's no service.

"How unpleasant," Kuriyama Mirai mutters as she types a draft for her blog's next rant.

"We can go explore it together if you like?"

"Oh, I... I guess we could," she agrees.

"I'd be glad to show you around." She cleans up their tea things and takes them back to the bar. "The gardens are one of my favourite places."

Mirai puts her phone away and straightens her cardigan sleeves, getting up to follow.

Minx leads her out the back door and into the garden. It's very beautiful out there, warm and sunny even as the afternoon starts to chill. "I finish my run here each morning. I love it here." She walks past the carefully tended garden beds, stopping to sniff the late blooming flowers.

"I've never seen so many flowers before..."

"You should see it in Spring. It's incredible here. The greenhouse is this way." She points up the hill.

Mirai nods and hikes her way up, asking, "Isn't it going to be spring soon?"

"Someone told me the weather here reflects the weather of a spot somewhere in Scotland. It's Fall here at the moment."

"Huh..."

But at least that means the late-blooming and autumn flowers will be out.

She opens the door to the greenhouse. It's warmer in there and the air is rich with the scent of green and growing things. "I must admit I haven't been in here before. Shall we explore together?'

"I... I guess so," Mirai agrees, stepping in.

Minx wanders from bench to bench, admiring the flowers and many coloured leaves. "I wonder if David's been up here. He'd love this."

"Ah? What is David-san like?"

[myshootingstar]

Minx smiles as she toys with the leaf of a plant. "Wise, patient, unflappable." She takes a deep breath, her eyes distant. "Powerful and determined. I know terrible things have happened to him in the past but he's the best teacher or boss I could ask for."
