A scientific experiment of the highest order is in progress. One which includes raspberry fudge, brie and crackers, and several different wines. Autor plans to get tipsy today, and he'll do it in style.

He'll also do it with help. Autor endures light ribbing by Sunshine, who has promised to stay with him and make sure he doesn't do anything foolish while even slightly inebriated--a serious concern of his, especially with a sprained ankle. She's keeping to tea today, just in case.

Autor raises a glass, his cheeks already tingling. He swirls the wine, as he has seen done before. Then he holds it up to his nose and takes a deep breath. "Ah, yes. This clean, buttery wine has a heady bouquet with oak notes, and a spicy aroma of vanilla and currant," he says, and takes a sip. "Sadly, it is broad--it has a full body aroma, but lacks any finesse to its taste."

Rae grins, sipping her tea. "Try harder not to sound like you memorized the book, Autor."

[OOC: Two pups, two muns! All threads will come after Rae and Autor's, when the boy is already tipsy.]

"I'm sorry that you were injured, but I'm glad something so ambitious has come out of it," Rae grins at them, and at Autor's goofy smile. "I'll help in any way I can. Even with bad Shakespeare."

It sounds like something light and enjoyable, even if it takes a lot of work - all qualities that help when her mind is caught up in perpetually dark thoughts.

"If you don't need more performers - because I swear, I'm poor verging on sad when it comes to acting skills - then I have no doubt I could be a more than competent caterer."

Joly pats Autor's shoulder in return, smiling sympathetically. It's a good thing for Autor that this is Milliways, with its wonderful painkillers. "We'll try our best, yes. And that'll be fun too, whatever happens."

He smiles back at Rae, and nods. "We've yet to find any performers, I'm afraid-- it's only a few days since we began talking of this. But audiences and performers are both more likely to come if there's good food."

"Don't be sad, Autor!" Rae laughs, just a little. "Wait, 'never had again'? That won't do. I'll have to do my best to remedy that unfortunate circumstance, Autor. We can't have that."

"So long as your audiences are up for baked goods and other sweet snacks, Joly, I'm your baker," she grins at him.

"Ah, now, I at least will remember you said so!" Joly pats Autor's shoulder. "And we will both remember about the meringues, I'm sure. Thank you. But you have to tell me-- how do you make a dessert of the Death of Marat?"

((ooc- I'm fine with doing a fade on talking about desserts, if y'all want--but not unless I really do find out what The Death of Marat is in dessert form, oh gosh, I cackled.XD))

"Aaaaactually," Rae grins, resting her elbows on the table. "Death of Marat was one of my very first experiments when I got my bakery - nearly ten years ago, now. I was messing around with pastries that look like one thing but turn out to be different when you take a bite. And I made this pastry in an oval, high-sided ramekin, all light and flaky and buttery and unassuming on the top, but with heavy, dark, blackberry and raspberry filling hiding underneath. Some of the regulars at my father's coffeehouse had gathered to be test subjects for my experiment, and when my friend Aimil stuck her fork into the pastry, the dark red filling gushed out over the side of the tub-like ramekin to pool on the countertop."

Rae grins, wryly, running a hand back through her red hair. "It was, I'll admit, a trifle dramatic."

Or a dramatic trifle.

"And Aimil - she's a librarian, and reads a lot and knows a lot about art and history and such - starts laughing and says, 'Gods, Sunshine, what is this, the Death of Marat?' So it got its name. I still have longtime regulars who'll ask for it, occasionally, but light, flaky pastries with heavy, dark fillings are a pain to make, and I've gotten better at saying no. Unless I really like you."

(ooc: All totally canon. :D)

Joly applauds, carefully not dumping Autor on the ground. "Your sense for the dramatic is more than trifling. Does this mean you go between your world and Milliways at will?"

(( ooc: I am so sorry, you didn't say it so he HAD to, he is canonically an absolute sucker for awful puns. XD))

Rae snickers at the pun, appreciative. "I can't blame you for that one. There are too many good trifling puns when it comes to desserts"

She still thinks of them, even after all this time, even if she restrains herself from speaking them aloud most of the time.

"I am not Bound, no, but I don't have control over my door, either. It's never really certain when the door to this place will show up, but when it does, I'm usually free to leave again whenever I wish."

He pats Autor's shoulder again, with a somewhat concerned smile. This is really an impressive experiment.

To Rae, he says "Is your door to another Earth, too? Does time stand still in your world while you're here? Can you- oh, set pies in the oven, visit for a week, and return to find them still not baked?"

It may take him forever to understand Millitime, but he appears to have forever.

"I'm from one of the Earths, yeah," she says, sipping her tea and smiling at Autor's drowsy affection. "From New Arcadia, in Independencia, across the Ocean of Atlas from Europa."

"Time stands still there however long I stay here - I've been here for months at a time, sometimes, and returned to my bakery having forgotten in the meantime what I was baking when I left," she admits, wryly.

"That's a very different arrangement from the Earths I've heard of" Joly says, while his free hand points from Autor to the wine, and upstairs to the rooms, eyebrows raised in question.

Rae's Earth is fascinating, he could ask questions for hours-- but getting Autor somewhere bed-like and near a bucket is probably a more immediate concern right now.

Rae grins at Autor's affection. "Whatever do you mean? Everyone else swears funny - I swear normally. Though... I do try to watch my mouth around here. It's no good invoking Thor when he might actually be around to hear."

Especially with what his name means in her world's slang.

"My Earth looks a lot like the maps of other Earths I've seen, but most of the names of countries and some of the cities are different."

Joly is perfectly all right with being cuddled; it seems one of safest options for Autor at the moment.

He blinks in surprise about Thor, though. "Thor is here? That's...German? Is Shiva here too? Wasn't that one of the Eastern gods? And your world knows both..." He pulls away from a particular thought. "I'm sorry, mythology isn't my field, but surely having them for company is...a little intimidating?"

Mythology is really, really not his field. That's about all he can remember about the presence of gods.

"I thankfully haven't met Shiva," Rae says, grinning. "Or Kali or Odin. And even though Thor was pretty easy-going, I try to watch my mouth. Too much explaining and possible incineration, if I got caught using a god's name as a slang term."

Whoops.

"Some of them are nice, though it's not something you'd want to count on. Demeter used to be a friend of mine, but I don't see her around any more."
