Mirai had been warned about Halloween hijinx, but she wasn't warned about the method in which it would manifest. She skitters off balance when her outfit shifts completely, her cardigan and dress giving way to-

".......really?! How unpleasant," she swears at the bandages covering her from head to toe.

Hey, can't go wrong with the classics, right?

"Sure, I'll just shelve my cancer research," Crow snarks, in the voice of a scientist asked to get a log for the inspector.

"I thought about what Rae might order," Autor admits, passing her a spoon. He tries his gelato, and closes his eyes for a moment, reveling in the taste. "I didn't ushed to chare much for food or even take chare of myself before I met her."

"Well why wasn't I informed about the switch between antedium fifty to fifty-one?" the head of the project asks on screen.

"'Cause we hate you," the robots respond.

"I hope I can be," Autor murmurs, poking at his gelato. He still loves Rae, but given how often he's broken his promises to her to keep himself safe, he doesn't know if their friendship is damaged or not at the moment. "She taught me how to be one, and why it'sh important."

He shakes his head, licking gelato off of his spoon. "I'm afraid you're right. Thish is pretty awful."

"Mm? Yesh, I'm--I'm all right," he says, adjusting his glasses. "I... broke a promishe and I'm not sure how to repair trusht yet. I'll figure it out."

Autor blinks, too, and they're back at the apathetic scientists. "Goodnessh, that was fasht."

"Logan had learned that enough doses of the antidote brought about a human appearance," the narrator explains.

"I did not, quit lying!"

"I think I do," Autor says, smiling a little. He didn't mean to bring his own problems into this. He finishes his gelato slowly. "Thanks, Missh Kuriyama."

The scientist walks down the hall, and returns to the wreckage of his lab. "Everything was destroyed by one sweep of the monster's arm," the narrator comments.

"It would have been nice to show the scene with the monster, but use your imagination," the robot says, just as woodenly, and Autor snorts.

The sunbathers run away screaming, and Autor blinks again. "Wait, were we looking at them from the point of view of the monshter?"

The scene cuts to a phone ringing, and two men arguing again. "Is there anything else I should know?"

"That your fly's open?"

"Well, he hash killed a couple of people, which we didn't shee, and wrecked a lab--which we alsho didn't shee--and frightened some shunbathersh," Autor points out, tilting his head. "Hm. You've got a good point."

The scientists argue again when they return, and Autor pokes himself with his fangs trying to drink his soda. Then the action--what little there is of it--follows a fire engine through the dark streets.

"The long wait began," the narrator intones gravely.

"And you're gonna see every minute of it," the robot whines.

And then the reveal hits. "As if a switch had been turned," the narrator starts excitedly, "as if an eye had been blinked, as if some phantom force in the universe had made a move eons beyond our comprehension, suddenly, there was no trail! There was no giant, no monster, no thing called "Douglas" to be followed."

"What," Autor says flatly.

"Then who, or what, has landed here? Is it here yet? Or has the cosmic switch been pulled? Case in point: The line between science fiction and science fact is microscopically thin! You have witnessed the line being shaved even thinner! But is the menace with us? Or is the monster gone?"

Autor stares, flabbergasted. He turns slowly to Mirai, blinking.

Autor laughs quietly, bringing his hand to his mouth. He can't help it; her righteous indignation is perfect.

"No, he didn't," Autor says, thoroughly amused with her reaction, if not the movie. "That wash a horrible film. Not even the robots could shave it."

"Normally they're not as awful as Monshter-A-Go-Go," Autor says, feeling responsible for just how bad it was. "And I think there'sh a marathon, too. Did you want to watch another?"

Autor settles back against the booth, pleased. "Tormented, huh? Well, it can't be any worshe than the previoush one."

"Sounds like the horn section is stuttering," Tom quips at the intro.

[personal profile] herr_bookman 2014-11-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Autor nods. "Would you like a blanket? Or a pillow?"

The woman kisses her lover, screams, and promptly dies. "Nancy, send in another fiancée."

[personal profile] herr_bookman 2014-11-01 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Autor blinks at her. "Ish what shafe, Missh Kuriyama?" he asks, looking for clarification.
