Mirai had been warned about Halloween hijinx, but she wasn't warned about the method in which it would manifest. She skitters off balance when her outfit shifts completely, her cardigan and dress giving way to-
".......really?! How unpleasant," she swears at the bandages covering her from head to toe.
Hey, can't go wrong with the classics, right?

Hey, can't go wrong with the classics, right?

"How did you think of all of these pleasant foods?" she asks, not caring that much for the movie.
But then, if the apathetic scientists quip has any weight, neither are the people in it.

"I thought about what Rae might order," Autor admits, passing her a spoon. He tries his gelato, and closes his eyes for a moment, reveling in the taste. "I didn't ushed to chare much for food or even take chare of myself before I met her."

Then the movie cuts to a meal at a restaurant, and Mirai goes, "Wait, what? Ah, why bother following this? It's not going to be satisfying."
Especially when this gelato is so smooth, cold, creamy, and delicious?

"'Cause we hate you," the robots respond.
"I hope I can be," Autor murmurs, poking at his gelato. He still loves Rae, but given how often he's broken his promises to her to keep himself safe, he doesn't know if their friendship is damaged or not at the moment. "She taught me how to be one, and why it'sh important."
He shakes his head, licking gelato off of his spoon. "I'm afraid you're right. Thish is pretty awful."

"Meanwhile at Lenscrafters..."
"Yeah, bad movies in about an hour."
Mirai blinks at the next sudden location shift, "Wait, how long was that scene? Maybe a minute?"
no subject
Autor blinks, too, and they're back at the apathetic scientists. "Goodnessh, that was fasht."
"Logan had learned that enough doses of the antidote brought about a human appearance," the narrator explains.
"I did not, quit lying!"
no subject
"And why do they even have a narrator? Nothing he's saying makes any sense."
She's starting to think the bots had the right idea, attempting to nap through the film.

The scientist walks down the hall, and returns to the wreckage of his lab. "Everything was destroyed by one sweep of the monster's arm," the narrator comments.
"It would have been nice to show the scene with the monster, but use your imagination," the robot says, just as woodenly, and Autor snorts.

Things get interesting soon enough when they cut to a group of sunbathers.
"Woah, that guy's got a weird shape, Crow comments on a bikini babe while Tom and Joel quietly correct him.

The scene cuts to a phone ringing, and two men arguing again. "Is there anything else I should know?"
"That your fly's open?"
no subject
"Does he even count as a monster? The scientists keep telling us he's dangerous, but we don't really see that."
She folds her arms and leans back a little.
"I'm just going to wait until we've got a monster again."
And they do see his feet before the next host segment, but that's it. By the end of it, Mirai knows more about the song Escape than she does about the monster.

The scientists argue again when they return, and Autor pokes himself with his fangs trying to drink his soda. Then the action--what little there is of it--follows a fire engine through the dark streets.
"The long wait began," the narrator intones gravely.
"And you're gonna see every minute of it," the robot whines.
no subject
"In the director's cut, they eliminated the narration," Joel comments, and Mirai wishes he could be right.

"What," Autor says flatly.
"Then who, or what, has landed here? Is it here yet? Or has the cosmic switch been pulled? Case in point: The line between science fiction and science fact is microscopically thin! You have witnessed the line being shaved even thinner! But is the menace with us? Or is the monster gone?"
Autor stares, flabbergasted. He turns slowly to Mirai, blinking.
no subject
"What," she repeats. "Really?! How utterly unpleasant!"
She turns to Autor, pointing at the tv, and goes, "Ah, I was right! He didn't even count as a monster! I'm so mad!"
no subject
"No, he didn't," Autor says, thoroughly amused with her reaction, if not the movie. "That wash a horrible film. Not even the robots could shave it."

And it's not long before the tune's kicking in for the next episode, and Mirai giggles at the bots' antics.

"Sounds like the horn section is stuttering," Tom quips at the intro.

In fact, she turns a little to rest her head against the side of the booth, still half-watching.

The woman kisses her lover, screams, and promptly dies. "Nancy, send in another fiancée."
