Today, the rats have brought Hannibal Lecter more than the wine he ordered: on the same try, they brought a few inches of branching antlers, decorated with tinsel.

Dr. Lecter looks quite pleased with having that piece of decoration on his table while he is leisurely sipping his wine.

Diaval doesn't quite have the social skills to know not just come over and play with the decoration. "Deer antlers. Pretty."

"Oh yes, I do like them as decorations very much," Hannibal says, smiling at him. "Hello, Diaval!"

"Hello Hannibal." He reaches out to feel the texture of antler. "What is it about them that you like?"

"The way they branch off, and the shadows they cast on the walls in my home," Hannibal muses. "They way they are meant by nature to be both an ornament and a weapon."

[intoaman]

"Oh! That makes sense. I have seen the great bucks fight. It is frightening and wonderful to see. Like a storm."

"Reason enough to rather have a piece of antler than a sprig of spruce," Hannibal says.

[intoaman]

"Spruce? This is part of the mid-winder festival, isn't it?"

[cook_the_rude]

"Yes," Hannibal says. "It's the tinsel; that's a Christmas decoration and, by its presence, makes the antlers one as well."

[intoaman]

"This? The shiny, sparkly stuff." Something about it makes his fingers itch. It's a bird thing.

Bossuet has generally avoided Dr. Lecter, which is a wise and sensible course of action. But what with Lecter's visit to Security with books, and the general stirring-up-of-things that Bahorel's arrival (of course) produces--he finds himself staring meditatively at the tinsely antlers a little longer than counts as just passing by.

"Good evening, Monsieur Lesgle," Dr. Lecter says, smiling up at him politely. "Would you like some wine, or would you rather have a spring of festive antlers to take home?"

"Ah, I'm not looking for a hunting trophy. But it's a nice rack you have there."

"I doubt you really think so," Dr. Lecter says, smiling up at him, seemingly very amused. His teeth are rather long and pointy.

"No? Not large, I admit--but well-proportioned, the graceful curves of nature, what's not to like? But I suppose you're right. Apologies for disturbing you." He nods.

"An antler is a remarkable construct of evolution," Dr. Lecter agrees, picking the thing up and turning it in his hands. "And no, you're not disturbing me at all."

He's heard a little bit about the evolutionary theories of the coming decades. "Better evolution than the remains of some Actaeon."

"He might have simply thrown his rack, due to the season," Dr. Lecter points out.

[electro_kinetic]

"Snacktime was just incomplete without the antlers, hm?" Noriko asks, wrapped in a faintly fluffy white sweater and pale jeans, holding a hank of lights which are flashing their miniature bulbs from white to multicolor.

Her headband is of mild interest, though, it being comprised of two tiny gold antlers and ears attached on. (She did not plan this.)

"No, it apparently isn't," Hannibal says, looking up at Noriko.

"Hello, Noriko. Do have a seat. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever say this, but your antlers are a lot cuter than mine."

She chuckles, and does take a seat, rolling her eyes up as if to see the tiny headband perched on her head.

"Yeah, well. It was unintentional decoration, but it's not half-bad. At least the lights came off early. But thank you."

"What about that very cute little ornament was unintentional?" Hannibal asks. "Would you like a drink?"

"As in I wasn't really intending to have it put on me," she replies, taking it off as she sets the lights down. "A couple of friends ambushed me with the lights. But it is kinda cute."

"Very much so," he says. "That bodes for a better Christmas than last year."

[electro_kinetic]

"Well I haven't gotten any weird presents this year, so we're already less creepy," she says. "It's not half bad at home this year, either."

"It seems nice at home, if your friends give you presents like that," Hannibal says.
