Autor sneaks up to Bar today to deliver his presents. Some of them he's been working on for months, and he's glad to be done, but he just knows he's forgetting someone--and that's stressful. He almost doesn't want to deliver them. But he codes everything out of his sylladex anyway, and drops all of his Solstice presents off.
To Little!Rae, Autor offers a rather large cookbook, more than two-thirds of which is empty, intending for the budding cook to fill it with her own recipes. He marked the other pages with his neat script with mostly Bavarian recipes--food that he knows how to cook--and foods they've had together. Spargel with hollandaise, creamed spinach, a few recipes for baked apples, latkes, instructions on how to cut a pineapple, and Charlie's breakfast pie, among others of his own mother's recipes. The boy also offers her a homemade yellow scarf and a tin of chocolate pinwheels, along with the following note:
Hello, Rae! Happy Solstice! I'm so happy to have you as my friend, and wish you well in the new year. I'm proud of you for pursuing your passions, and let me know if I can help in any way. Hope to see you soon! -A.
P.S. What do you call a lawyer turned cook?
A sue chef.
To Oswin, Autor gives a soufflé pan, oven mitts, and a treat for the cat. Oswin - Happy Solstice! I'm glad that you're my friend and thank you for always being willing to explain things to me. -A.
To Lohengrin, he offers the same gift as last Solstice - a small leather pouch containing bow strings of varying length, arrow fletches, and recurve tips. The note is brief, as well: Lohengrin - Thanks for the second chances. I'm proud to call you my friend. -A.
To Lucas he gives - A small pot of coneflowers and a tin of assorted of cookies. Thank you for being my friend, Lucas! I'm so happy to know you, and I'm glad you're here. Happy Solstice. -A.
To Katya he bequeaths a bottle of decent, pineapple-infused vodka. Tiger Cub - Don't drink this all at once, though I know you could. -A.
To Mirai he gives a pair of navy blue and white arm warmers with a floral lace pattern and an apricot. Miss Kuriyama - Happy Solstice! It's a holiday of second chances where people air grievances so they can start the new year fresh. Thank you for being my friend; it has been a pleasure to get to know you this year, and I hope the next one is better. -A.
To Mia and Lemia he sends Pi Lo Chun green tea, which tastes of apricots and plums. Mia receives a delicate rose gold ring with a twining leaf motif, and Lemia a thick leather journal engraved with flowers. His note to them is more a letter, inquiring after their health and the health of the children--each of whom he sends fruit candies and a knitted scarf--as well as wishing them a happy holiday season.
To Joly he bequeaths a very old edition of Sir Charles Bell's fourth Bridgewater Treatise from 1833, The Hand: Its Mechanism and Vital Endowments as Evincing Design, well known for its gorgeous, detailed drawings. Autor's note to him is as follows: My dear Joly! Happy Solstice! This is Solstice, a holiday of second chances, where friends air grievances that have built up over the year for a fresh start. I haven't known you long, so there aren't any between us on my part, but second chances suits your cheerful and optimistic demeanor well. Please take care of yourself, and I look forward to our enthusiastic exploits in the new year. -A.
For Bonnie the boy has knitted a scarf with different shades of green, forming a gradient, and baked a tin of cookies. Happy Solstice, Bonnie! I appreciate our friendship and hope to spend lots of time with you in the new year. -A.
To Bossuet he bequeaths a great many wooden pieces, no doubt parts of one of those infuriating wooden puzzles. Dear Bossuet, Happy Solstice! No doubt you'll be cursing my name when you finally figure this out, as you do. Thank you for being my friend. -A.
To Gavroche, Autor offers a sketchbook and a set of Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils, as well as some treats for Franz. Happy Solstice, Gavroche! I am pleased to call you my friend and wish you a merry new year. -A.
To Fry he gives a chocolate chess set. Happy Solstice, Fry! I look forward to our next game. -A.
To Sherral he bequeaths a simple silver ring on a chain. Sherral may have noticed the boy wearing something similar. Happy Faramalia, Sherral! This is a "purity" ring, which should render you immune to most poisons. Enjoy! -A.
To his other friends, Autor leaves boxes of croissants with sweet fillings and the occasional tea tin. The boy marvels at how many friends he has. Packages delivered and burden lifted, he orders tea and Kartoffelkäse, and retreats upstairs.

But Autor may find, next time he goes to the bar, he is presented with this:

Dear Autor,
I've never celebrated Solstice myself, but it seems a lovely holiday. I cannot imagine having anything to forgive you for; except perhaps for giving me a cause for a rather emotional display in public. You for your part may forgive me for not having a proper gift ready, or knowing the other customs of the day; so at least I might help you celebrate a little properly!
I thank you for the book,it is a beautiful work; I thank you more for your friendship. I told you shortly after we met that Milliways did not truly seem a home to me. It has become much more of one since; and I gratefully admit it is largely because of your company and advice. Thank you, for more than you would perhaps believe. - Joly
It takes a few tries to get the text legible; Joly's handwriting was like a bad joke about doctors even before medical school. But careful block lettering eventually comes through, leaving something clear enough that he feels comfortable leaving it with Bar.

And I thank you as well; your friendship is of instrumental importance to me, and I hope to cherish you properly in the years to come. Take care, take care, and I shall see you soon.

Next time Autor is in, he'll find a piece of string set aside for him. Yep, a piece of string. ...And, okay, a book of cat's cradle patterns, all the really complicated ones from Australia and many other places that Lesgle hasn't heard of.
Don't tangle yourself up too badly, reads the note with it. Happy New Year, friend!

She's not good at soppy messages, so Autor will find at the bar a jar of home made plum preserves, and a box of gingerbread men with different moustaches iced on them.
