Milliways may have to get used to having a small portion of the tables colonized by Alera for a little while.
Almost literally, in a way: Tavi has pulled together about four tables, among them his favorite with a clear view of the door, so he can have a large sandbox with colored sand on it. Not only does he have a sandbox, he has little tokens and some are even tiny figurines. But one of those colors of sand is a fairly sickly green--and anyone who bothers to peer at his box can see that it is very clearly a map. Most of it is covered in that nauseating color, too.
Not for long, if Tavi's got anything to say about it--and these days? Does he ever.
Yes, there is a six-and-a-half-foot guy in Roman armor poking around a box of brightly colored sand with little toy people. Looks like fun to play with, right?

The sand box did get his attention, though.
"What is this," asked the Bard as he came up to the tables.

At the moment, most of the visible map qualities of the sandbox have to do with the topography, which clearly show some mountains, an isthmus, and the blue of what must be waters on either side of it, and the land as it pulls away from that small break.
But despite the obnoxious green, it's quite clearly a map.

"What is it?" asked Tegid.

Tavi likes stating the obvious. As it is, he looks back down at the map and prods thoughtfully at some of the counters on it, tilting his head to see if he likes the new arrangement better.

"I see," he said, "I have never seen one made this way."

"Well, I could have asked for paper copies," Tavi admits, "but I'm working out some ideas. I'd rather not have to be writing over old ones, or trying to remove the old traces. Might as well work in something malleable."
Plus furycrafting is still a shiny new toy for him.

"We don't use them as such, in my world," he said. Few maps exist except those made in stone or metal.
"What is this detail?" asked Tegid pointing at a point on the map.

"A mountain. We call him Garados." Him, not it--and it's said totally absently, as if there's nothing odd about a geographical feature having a gender, or even as if it's only to be expected.

"Is it a sacred mountain?"
no subject
"Making plans?"

Feuilly has already talked to a Norse god(?) without ill effect, so he's going to approach the scene without too much trepidation. He watches for a bit, arms crossed, trying to recognize the map without success.

"Dude. It's like a planning hologram, but... sand."

So he just smiles a little. "Yes. You have something similar, I take it?"

He doesn't even dare hazard a guess about something like that.
After a moment of frowning at the map thoughtfully, he waves a hand and the map smooths out to nothing again. His casual use of furycrafting--and so visibly--in Milliways is still new even to him.

He points at the western end. "My own Legion is here. The primary command is over here," and he points to the visible fortress in the north-east of the Valley.
He hasn't actually re-set all the figurines in their places, though. The actual military assets would take a while (and also he's a spy, he doesn't discuss some things).

"That really is a neat trick. I thought you couldn't do that stuff when you were younger?"
