Somebody behind the scenes was pointing out that Lesgle could just do his darn job! It's been a while! and that somebody was quite correct.

Lesgle's strong work ethic has of course been keeping him on a routine schedule of busing tables and cleaning the kitchen, and here he is right now, bustling about in a way that is so far un-disastrous. Do interrupt him!

Death sipped his tea calmly. "I don't mind if I do."

When he's got himself a cup of coffee, he raises an inquiring eyebrow. "I'm fairly sure we've not been introduced."

"Mmm." Lesgle bows slightly in his seat, not denying it. "So?"

Death sipped his tea.

"Do you ever wonder if you are a pawn in someone else' game?"

He can't help laughing, a little tiredly. "Certainly. Very frequently. And at this point it would be as shocking to learn as--as that I'm a soul trapped here after death. But do you know something in particular, Monsieur...?"

Death smiled at that, it might have been a nice smile, but it wasn't.

"You are friends with one Hannibal Lecter, are you not?" asked Death.

"I am not," he says decidedly. "But I am somewhat acquainted with him. Yourself, sir?"

The smile went completely inhuman, and was not nice at all. The smell of dust and became somewhat stronger, and a slight oder of decay could be detected.

"We are aquainted, " he said, "I wouldn't say we are friends by any stretch of the word."

"He makes his way around the social scene, doesn't he." Lesgle leans back in his seat and considers the man in the suit. "Is your point that I'm a pawn in a game with Hannibal Lecter? Or are the questions unrelated?"

Lesgle is slowly getting used to various shades of inhuman, but the dust and decay when the man smiles is distinctly unpleasant. But perhaps he's from a universe without toothbrushes.

"He uses people, that is in no doubt, " said Death, " But I am not sure who he is using. I can just" Death took a drink of his tea. The smell of it was soothing.

"Let us just say he is in for some fun," Death didn't want to give too much a away.

"His idea of fun, or someone else's?"

"That was sarcasm," said Death with a straight face.

"Sarcasm? Sar...casm. Hmm. I don't think we have that in my world, or not yet; we've only gotten as far as 1832. --So is this an amiable hint to watch Dr. Lecter for signs of amusement, or...?"

Death laughed, a rare thing for a living mortal being to do, make Death laugh.

"Touche, " he said, ' In all seriousness though, Hannibal is a dangerous man. I would watch him if I were you."

The laugh gets a much warmer smile--and the warning does, too. "Thank you, sir. I've been warned already, luckily, but I appreciate it. But sir, you still have the advantage of me. We've not been introduced."

"I am Death," he said.

"Oh."

Right, well. Laigle looks him over, and finds it plausible enough in a place with Demeter. Which...raises more questions than it settles, come to think of it. "Which one?"

"Death," he said, "The horseman, I and God are both so old we have forgotten who is older. Probably not the Death of tour world, though."

"It seems somehow unlikely." He's not sure why it seems unlikely, but--having met his own death, surely he'd recognize her (it, him) despite not remembering the encounter.

Lesgle finishes his coffee, quickly (though not so quickly as to be rude).

"In a hurry?" asked Death.

"I am at work," he says mildly.

"Do you not get breaks?"Asked Death, "Or are there no employee right s here?"

"Didn't I just take a break?" He lifts his empty coffee cup to illustrate. "I drank coffee, had a brush with death, what more excitement should I look for?"

"Fair enough," said Death," But it is less a brush with Death when you are all ready dead."

"Well, yes." He gives Death a thoughtful look. "Do you...not often make conversation with humans? Just hazarding a guess."

"Here, there seems to be more humans, than other supernatural beings," said Death, "I talk to plenty. Why do you guess?"
