Milliways really is a fantastic place to catch up on paperwork - especially if you've accidentally gotten sucked into a few of some really fantastic experiments in the lab and you just have no idea where the afternoon went (or the morning, for that matter) and now you're hungry and deeply behind. Here, there's pub food, and alcohol, and a lot of extra time to work.

That's why there is a Jemma Simmons tucked in a booth, with a plate of tikka masala and an ale, along with a pile of paperwork. It's also why there's still the marks of her lab goggles framing her eyes and the odd rumple marks of tight latex gloves on her sleeves.

Jay leans in the edge of her booth, watching her work. "Long day, beautiful?"

"Just not a terribly productive one, in terms of things that are actually required by the job and..." She pauses once she's gotten a good look at him, frowning.

"... My drugs did not do that."

Jay shrugs, looking mildly sheepish. "Yeah, your drugs helped but a friend with healing abilities kinda... talked me around to accepting a faster solution."

"Well, I'm glad for that - you looked rather horrid. I was worried." If she didn't see him around tonight, she had planned to make sure he wasn't unconscious in his room or something equally drastic.

"I certainly wasn't at my best. Thanks for looking out for me." He gestures to the seat opposite her. "May I join you?"

"Of course!" She stuffs her papers back in their folder, then with great composure (she thinks) she flips the folder to hide the stylized eagle icon. "It really wasn't a bother, you needn't worry about it."

Jay's very carefully, and perhaps a little pointedly not looking at her paperwork. It wouldn't do to get her in any trouble.

"Still, I want you to know how much I appreciate you." he gives her a warm little half smile. "And I seem to recall I owe you dinner sometime."

"Well, you're welcome to join me now - lunch sort of... got away from me. Somehow."

Mostly there had been some pointed commentary from her SO until she'd realized that somehow it wasn't ten in the morning, it was nearly four in the afternoon.

Oops?

"If I'm not keeping you from work you don't want to be distracted from." No doubt she's very good at loosing herself in work she loves. Hence the safety glasses indent.

"Oh, no, this is just... paperwork, administrative stuff, just needs to be finished by end of day. Which, thanks to this place, can be whenever I like!"

Well, no. If she runs into Hill or Fury, that deadline is suddenly going to be very present. But so far she's in the clear!

"Ah, so I have full rein to distract you. Wonderful." He flags down rat. "Want some more beer, beautiful?"

"Please - I've never much liked the paperwork bit, if I could somehow hire someone to do all of that I'd have the perfect job." Well, that, and if she somehow could do some field work, that would be brilliant.

A girl can daydream, right?

"The paperwork is always the most tedious part. I really don't miss patrol reports." He orders her more beer and a plate of chips to share. "There was nothing worse than dragging yourself in at 3am and knowing you had another hour at least of updates to do."

"This was when you were being Robin, or your current security work?" Because if it's security work through an actual organization, clearly someone needs to rework the schedules.

And who makes a kid do reports at 3am?

"Oh Robin." He shrugs. "The security work was more ah... get the job done, report back. With as little paperwork or fuss as possible."
