The days are warming up and little!Rae's sunflower and tomato plants are growing tall, out in the garden. She may have given a leap of joy when she saw that the small yellow blossoms on the tomato plants had fallen away, replaced with the beginning signs of tiny green fruits.

Kneeling on a foam pad, she carefully weeds the plants as she's seen Autor do for his asparagus, and gently removes any insects she recognizes as harmful. The girl explains to them how she would prefer that they not eat her plants as she picks them up, careful not to hurt them, and moves each of them to the underbrush at the edge of the forest. Surely they'll find other food there.

Catch the ten-year-old kneeling beside the towering sunflowers in the garden, humming to the plants as she tends them.

There are cats in the garden as well.

Rae tries to convince the grasshopper that it doesn't want to eat her sunflower's leaves and would be happier out in the grass, but it escapes her, leaping and hopping away towards the cats.

The little black cat jumps right at it.

Rae winces as the grasshopper disappears beneath the quick, clever paws.

"I was just going to put him out on the grass. You could chase him more out there, Myrrh..."

Myrrh turns at her voice, and the grasshopper escapes.

The cat looks a bit perplexed.

Cats are always elegant, aren't they? Except when they're not, like Myrrh now.

"You'll catch another one," she seeks to mollify the perplexed and bereft cat, reaching at a hand to offer scritches. Even if she's glad that one got away.

Skritches!

Almost as good as catching grasshoppers.

Myrrh gives herself over fully to the attention, purring loudly.

There are thorough ear-scritches and delicious chin-rubs - proper therapy for losing one's prey.

"You like that, huh?" Rae murmurs, easily able to tell that the cat is liking it.

The cat jumps into her arms, so much does she like it.

The girl sits back on the foam mat she'd been kneeling on, thoroughly cuddling the cat and making much of it.

"I'm sorry I have nothing for you but scritches. You and your friends are doing such good work, chasing the insects off the garden plants."

Now the second cat approaches, as there seems to be some attention to be had here.

Good thing Sunshine has two hands, then! She welcomes the little Count with scritches aplenty.

"Y'know, I'm not going to get anything done with you two here," she says with a grin. Rae doesn't mind at all.

"Would you have me take them away? They do tend to conquer, like the true little Goths that they are."

That is Teja, standing tall dark and amused among the greenery.

The girl grins at him, still stroking the happy cats. "No, no! This is the best sort of invasion."

Her lap is happy to be conquered.

"But you were doing something when they came and decided you had to pay them attention instead," Teja says.

"So long as they don't fall asleep on me, I should be able to go back to weeding when they get bored or distracted by other things," she shrugs, smiling down at the kitties. "Anyway, they're sweet. I can pet them for a while without my plants suffering any."

Rae isn't worried about it.

"How're you doing, King Teja?"

"They do fall asleep on people if they wish to," Teja says. "Fall asleep might not be the right term -- cats sleep on purpose."

She straightens, smiling resolutely. "If they look like they intend to sleep on me, I will gently set them aside."

Her will is strong!

Maybe not that strong, because sleepy kitties... but she will do her best!

"They will take advantage of you," Teja warns.

"They might try," she amends the statement, rubbing Count's chin. "They're such good kitties. So sweet."

"Right until when they are not," Teja says, "turning into fierce predators importantly going about their own business."

"Well, of course," Rae says, grinning. "They're cats. They're still fierce predators when they're melting contentedly across your lap."

They're still owed all the tuna in the world when they're not eating!

"How have you been, King Teja?"

"I have been -- well, I think," Teja says. "It seems in death, I have found what they call a life."

With the whole Loki entourage going about their business, Pyrrha sometimes there and often not, and him taking his turns to look after Egil.

Myrrh has settled on Rae's lap, content. The girl pauses, then tilts her head, looking at Teja with a little smile.

"Better late than never?"

"The late Teja never had a life before death," Teja says, wryly, wrapping all those words into one short sentence.

There's a raven nearby, helping with the bugs, Especially the swishy grubs. The taste the best.

The girl is not averse to friends rustling up some grub(s) while she weeds her plants.

So long as occasionally she can come over and say hello.

"Hey you," Rae smiles at the hungry bird. "Enjoying your breakfast?"

Diaval caws happily and hops over to see what she's up to, offering her a particularly juicy grub.

Sunshine chuckles a little, stroking the glossy feathers. "Thank you! I had my breakfast earlier, though, so you go on ahead. Enjoy."

That grubs aren't human food doesn't even matter. It's the thought that counts.

He leans into the stoke and caws before munching down the grub. Her loss!

The flowers are interesting and Diaval hops between them to investigate, careful not to bruise the petals.

"The tall ones are sunflowers, reaching up to the sky - when they bloom their flowers are big and round like the sun itself," she smiles. "These shorter ones are tomato plants. Their flowers just fell recently, and the fruit set - see the tiny tomatoes?"

Rae holds one of the many stems of the healthy plant, so the raven can see the tiny green tomatoes forming at the ends where the flowers had been.

He bobs around, duly admiring her flowers and tiny, ting tomatoes.

"I'm going to enter them in the contest next month, when they're ready," she smiles at the growing plants with all the gentle warmth of a sunny day in springtime. "There's going to be a fair, Diaval, with contests and food and music and games. You should come, too. It'll be lots of fun."

He crows and dances about happily. That does sound like fun.
