Elrond is in the bar tonight.
It is still winter at home but here he has shed his heavy wool robe and is now seated, in tunic, leggins, and boots.
Fletching arrows.
His hair is bound back and adorned with tiny, silver stars.

His clothes and lordly bearing, however, seem at odds with his activity, at least to Percy's mind, and from just down the bar he watches curiously, then finally says, with a nod towards the arrows, "You have some skill in it, sir."

"I should hope so," he says. "I've done it often enough that my fingers know what to do without my mind having to instruct them."
He holds up an arrow and inspects it. Seemingly satisfied, he puts it aside.
The featers are dyed in blues and violets. Some are left a light grey that looks almost silvery. They match the colors of his clothing, so it would make sense that he is making them for himself.

Which is partly an answer.

It's a friendly smile. The child does look familiar.

There was a king talking to him. Who else but a king would have silver stars in their hair like that?
"Hi..."

Kindly asked, so the boy would not take it as scolding.

His eyes were bright, inquisitive, and took in all they saw. He wanted to ask if the lord before him was a king, but that wasn't something you asked.

"I'm sure the stripling prince will have something to say about those arrows."

As he does a quick visual assessment.
He tries to be discreet about it though.

"It is good to know that you have sensible friends here," he says lightly.
"And the woodland Prince has been on his very best behaviour whenever I have spoken with him."

So despite being in war clean-up he found a way in, streaks dirt and nasty green something on his armor and boots.
Elrond is slightly eye-catching on a normal day.
But fletching arrows? Fascinating.
Tavi slows to a stop to watch with avid interest. "I've never actually seen that done before," he comments. (Who needs 'hello'?)
no subject
That seems like the most logical explanation.

As the two--one long, one short--at his belt rather attest to.
"Actually, my uncle's a fantastic archer and woodsman, but I don't think I ever really watched him do his own arrows." Thinking back to why he might not have seen it in his childhood--and therefore not actually know how to do it himself--he is almost puzzled. "I'm sure he can do his own. He might have after we went to bed, and I know we had others who could. He was pretty busy running the steadholt to have done much of it."
At least, probably--although running a steadholt is probably far less hectic than anything Tavi's had to run himself.
"I might have been reading," he admits sheepishly.
no subject
"That is almost always a valid excuse," he says with a small chuckle.
"Or af least it ought to be."

Even as a farm boy, even when books were scarce, Tavi somehow managed to be a bookworm.
"And while I learned to track, I was never actually much of a woodsman myself," he admits. Partly due to his lack of furycrafting, of course. "And shepherds have less need of them usually. Slings, though, those I can use."
And to deadly effect. Alera's First Lord is highly competent in the most basic of peasant weapons.

Or she was, until she gets a look at Elrond's hair. Honestly, those look like stars, they can't be stars right, no, those aren't... but they look like stars.
She didn't mean to stumble to a halt and stare, but...
They can't be stars... right? Right. But...

Elrond sees her and gives her a smile.
"Hello, Jemma," he says.
The stars twinkle.

"Hello, Lord Elrond. Doing well, I hope?"
no subject
"And how are you, Jemma?"

(Of course, this is based on an observational pool where N=1, so this cannot be used as a reliable study.)
"I," She replies with a thousand-kilowatt grin, "Am brilliant. And I'm probably not supposed to tell anyone but you know most everything anyway and I've been dying to talk with someone about it since it was official... I'm officially a field agent now."
