Almanzo is out by the lake, fishing, and hoping he gets a chance to bump into Dick today, since it's drizzling nicely outside right now and rain is good for fishing.

At the moment he's sitting very still, so as not to disturb the fish.

The instant Dick saw it was raining, he fetched his fishing rod and went straight out to the lake to find Almanzo. As soon as he sees him, he breaks into a quiet trot and heads straight over.

If his hands are a little muddy, that's due to cartwheeling in the damp mud. Just the one.

"Hey Dick!" Almanzo waves and calls quietly.

"Hey, 'Manzo!"

Dick speeds up a little, but stays quiet until he gets right up to Almanzo, holding his rod close to him.

"Kay, so how'd we do this?"

"You've got to bait the hook first." Almanzo says. "I brought some worms. Then you flick it in real light, and keep real still."

Dick sits down lightly next to Almanzo, propping his rod up against his thigh so he can hold the hook in one hand while he used the other to pick up one of the wriggly wriggly maggots serving as live bait.

"Like this?"

"Yes, and you watch the float." Almanzo says. "When it bobs, you've got a nibble, and when you think it's got the hook you reel in gentle."

It's like a stake out!
Dick hates stake outs - they're kind of boring.

But he knows he needs practice, and there are worse ways to practice patience than fishing with a friend, so...

...he ever so lightly and gently flicks the hook in, leaving only the merest disturbance in the water. Then he sits down, close enough to Almanzo that their elbows brush.
