First Entrance - Open To All
Tonight, Bar admits a very special guest. The narration believes that it’s safe to say that there are two kinds of people here: those who know of him, and those who will know of him.
He is wearing an olive-drab flightsuit and aviator shades, with his flight helmet cradled under his arm. It’s painted in stripes of red, white, and blue, and MAVERICK is spelled out just above the visor.
Welcome to Milliways, Lieutenant Mitchell. We believe you’ll find it to your liking.

Yes, Steve Trevor, she is talking about you.
"And I've liaised with the government before. It saves time, knowing how people expect their officers to behave."

A beat, then, with a vague gesture to her ensemble:
"You, uh - don't look like the contactor type."
(He knows Wonder Woman's costume. He's American, of course he knows Wonder Woman's costume. But not her secret identity, or her origin story, or - anything else, really.)
no subject
"But I don't particularly need to get paid, so that's not at all terrible."
no subject
Well, color him curious.
(And also - nah, it couldn't be. Could it?)
"What kind of liaison work do you do, exactly?"
no subject
She's still smiling, but only a little.
"I go by Wonder Woman when I'm working. Newspapers have a way of naming you if you don't name yourself first. I think it's to do with all the secret identities out there."
Diana is just saying.
no subject
"-no way."
His laugh quickly transitions to a grin.
"Can I get your autograph? How about a picture? Goose is never gonna believe me otherwise."
(Maverick's tales of his various exploits are always completely and 100% believable we don't know what you're talking about.)no subject
"I'm not exactly in the habit of lying."
It's true!
"Will it cause problems for you with the rest of your world if you have that kind of thing around? Because if not, Bar can probably provide one of the press photos from the movie release. Tolifhar is in a few of them, too, though, which -- I'm going to assume your world doesn't have a Gorilla City."
More's the pity. Some of its residents are very excellent company, indeed. And then other former residents are Gorilla Grodd.
no subject
(Problem scmoblems, Diana!)
"Though I've never heard of - Toliwhatsit? Or Gorilla City."
no subject
She's joking, and she also means it. Shockingly.
"Would you prefer a selfie? I hear that's all the rage these days. Or we can ask a waitrat."
And as Diana has no clue when Maverick's coming in from, it seems like a reasonable question to ask.
no subject
"I was thinking something along the lines of a Polaroid." He glances around, regarding the waitrats for a moment. "Left mine at home, sad to say. There wouldn't happen to be one on hand here, would there?"
no subject
Almost before Diana asks, a clean and new (1980's) Polaroid camera is sitting on the bartop.
"Thank you very much. Should we be standing for this?"
no subject
"I believe so, ma'am."
(In Maverick's mind, nothing beats being a F-14 driver for sheer cool factor. But taking a photo with Wonder Woman - the Wonder Woman - is up there, somewhere.)
He stands, leaning against the Bar as he fiddles with the camera - Goose has something like this, but it's just different enough that you have to guesswork your way around some more before you can-
It unfolds with a clack all of a sudden.
"There we go. On three?"
no subject
And the lady's got muscle.
"One. Two."
On three she'll smile, bright and warm.
Because it's what you do when you're Diana. People are -- amazing. And she's glad to know them. Even new-met friends-to-be.
