[[Before this: Ragnar and Athelstan enlisted the help of Diaval the raven, and Ragnar, Athelstan and Sinric said their brief, emotional good-byes.]]

Ragnar Lothbrok walks down the stairs, calmly and collectedly, carrying a bag and his weapons. Ragnar is already putting on the earl again, the Viking leader; and Athelstan, a pace or two behind him and every bit as calm, is falling easily back into the role of faithful steward and warrior. The glances they give each other are cheerful if affectionate, nothing more.

As they walk through the bar, Diaval in raven-shape glides down from the rafters to perch on Ragnar's shoulder, who ties a small dark rag around the shiny ring on Diaval's foot as he goes.

Athelstan looks around the main room one last time; then Ragnar opens the door and they all walk out into the very busy Viking encampment beyond it.

The door swings shut slowly.
