In one corner of the bar, Guppy is holding a small birthday party for his youngest son.

Gil is rather too little to understand being a year old, but he does understand that there are balloons and cake and this thing where the balls go from the top to the bottom all by themselves when he puts them in.

Brooke, the next youngest, is currently charging around with a balloon sword, shouting 'On guard!' at people.

More little (and less little) people welcome to come and share the cake!

Vanessa catches sight of the party and smiles. It’s always nice to see people enjoying themselves, but especially small children. She has none of her own and doesn’t know if they’ll ever be in the cards for her, so to speak, but she has a fondness for other people’s children. She decides to get up and walks over to their corner of the bar.

“Is it someone’s birthday, then?” She smiles at the small crowd. She doesn’t have a present or even sweeties to share, but she can at least tell the birthday boy or girl to have a pleasant birthday.

"Yep, it's Gil's first birthday." Guppy says, nodding at the baby.

"And mine." Brooke says, waving her balloon sword.

"Not until November 5th, Brooke." Guppy says. "It's only August."

"Well," She pauses to smile at Brooke. "Happy early birthday."

"What a milestone! A first birthday." Vanessa clasps her hands together. "I'm sorry if I'm intruding, but you all seemed so happy I just had to stop by."

"You're very welcome." Guppy says. "Would you like some cake?"

"Cake would be lovely!" Vanessa smiles. She might as well sit and enjoy the party. She's always been a believer that 'the more the merrier' applies to social events, even if at social events she usually enjoys being by herself.

"Are you finding this place okay?" Guppy asks, passing some cake over.

First, Vanessa takes a bite of cake and nods approvingly of the dessert's taste. It's been a while since she's had cake this good.

"I am." She nods again. "I like it quite a bit."

"Did you have any worries or questions?" Guppy asks.

"Well," She lovers her voice just the smallest bit. "I just heard something about people being bound to this place. How does that work?"

"Well, their door disappears for a little while, and then usually they get let out again. It's supposed to help you achieve something."

"Ah!" She smiles slightly. "So it serves a purpose. I was worried that it was just something unfortunate that happened to certain people."

"It probably feels that way at the time." Guppy says. "I was Bound a couple times when the bar decided I needed to sleep."

She nods. "I see. It sounds almost as if the bar was looking out for you those times." Vanessa knew the bar was special, but she hadn't been aware that it was also intelligent.

"Pretty much. It tends to pick you up in times of trouble too."

Amanda see's Guppy and she can't help but smile, especially when he is with his little one's. The immortal approaches and when Brooke greets her the immortal smiles and raises her hands in surrender. "But my lady I am unarmed." which is true. It's one of those rare occasions even in Milliways where Amanda isn't carrying any weapons.

"No you're not." Brooke says. "You got one arm there and one arm there."

"Hey Amanda." Guppy waves.

"That I do."

She turns to Guppy, "Hi Guppy." she bows to Brooke, "I beg your leave My Lady." and walks over to Guppy and takes a seat.

[OOC: sorry, I don't get internet at my new place until my Friday afternoon.]

Gil isn't quite walking, but he crawls over to greet the newcomer. He has his fingernails painted multiple colours, because they have discovered that this amuses him.

"How are you keeping?" Guppy asks. "This is Gil, he just turned one."

Amanda prepares to greet Gil too, her hands extended if he wants to take them.

"I am keeping well enough." turning her attention back to Gil, "Hello Gil."

Gil holds his hands up to be pulled up to standing.

"Do you want some cake?" Guppy asks.

"Cake would be great." she beams at him as she reaches out and helps Gil to a standing position.

Gil takes a bit of pulling up, but once he's there, he bounces on his knees.

Guppy passes her some cake.

"He's not quite walking yet, but he was born very early so he's not really due to."

"As far as I'm aware he is a prodigy." really Amanda doesn't usually spend much time with kids that aren't Guppy's.

She accepts the cake. "Thank you."

"He's a miracle certainly, but I don't think he's going to end up as far ahead as the others." Guppy admits. "But so long as he's happy and healthy that's not important."

"Absolutely. He definitely looks happy." she sets the cake aside so she can play with Gil.

"How has the yoga been going?"

"I've not really had time." Guppy admits.

"You should always make time for yourself." she lightly scolds him. She worries about him, though he is looking alright.

She starts to play peak a boo with Gil.

Gil starts to laugh.

"I do my best, it's summer holidays so all the kids are home." Guppy says.

"I know you do." there is infinite warmth in her smile. "Which means all the more time for us to play with them.

Turning to Gil, "Isn't that right?" speaking to him in that way adults speak to babies where they don't actually expect them to understand a word they are saying.

Gil giggles and hides his eyes ready for more peek-a-boo.

Amanda keeps playing with Gil.

And eventually there is confetti

That confetti turns into a steady rainfall of confetti.

....some of the confetti might be edible and punch flavored, too.

"Wheeee!" Brooke runs through the confetti.

Gil, who isn't quite walking yet, waves his arms in it.

The confetti rain grows ever thicker before Pinkie makes her sudden entrance - in through the door to the Lake, balanced on one hoof upon a giant rainbow balloon, wearing a rainbow-striped suit and bearing a crown of festive-looking fresh fruit on her noggin. She peddles over with speedy grace.

"HEY! Is somebody having a PARTY?" she yells.

"It's Gil's birthday, he's one." Guppy says, grinning and hoping he isn't going to have to pick up all the bits.

That's what the Loopas are for! (Or Pinkie herself. You haven't lived until you've seen her play a mean bagpipe vacuum!)

"Heeyyy birthday guy!" Pinkie says. "Did you have cake!? And ice cream?! And donuts?! and krumkake?!?"

"Boo!" Gil says, because that's the nearest sound he knows to what has just happened.

"Really?" Pinkie says. "Y'know what THAT means?!"

It means the baby is going to crawl over and try and pull himself up on your tail, Pinkie?

Which means Pinkie is going to jump to the rafters with a 'eek!', then float right down to the ground like a balloon. Congratulations, Gil, you're perhaps the youngest person ever to break the limits of physics.

Gil lets go, and falls back on his bottom, and looks alarmed by the big noise... there's a lip wobble there.

And there is immediately a Pinkie to scoop him up. "No crying on your birthday!" she insists - though she's totally ready to hand him over to Guppy if he starts bawling.

The lip wobble subsides, and the baby snuggles on the pony.
