Quentin is stretched out on a couch eating a sandwich as he reads a book with a cover that's artistic and its not clear what the title is.
His almost bronze hair is a little messy since he came in not long after waking up and sometimes he needs a break from the house.
Every day, he wonders how Toby will be when she gets up and here he can rest before trying to help her.

"I despair, I really do."

Her smile goes sharp.
"Have you ever seen a firestorm?"

The same is true of any mage, to a greater or lesser degree. Usually lesser. (Not always.)

She smiles, quick and crooked.
"I'm good at control because I have a lot of practice. Most of it with myself."

Her mouth quirks.
"I got lucky. That I had a talent for what I was called to do, I mean."

If she sounds faintly apologetic, that's largely because he is her friend, and the magic in his world is different than hers.
But the way her world uses blood magic is almost uniformly horrible. (It doesn't have to be, but people make the wrong choices all the damn time.)
