[oom: Sparky moves to the other side of the door. Guppy asks Fran not to get a new dog without consulting him.]

Guppy is in a booth, writing a note. Curled up on his feet is a small white dachshund puppy, who has apparently chosen the one member of the household who doesn't like dogs that much to attach himself to.

So far Guppy is mostly ignoring the puppy, except to occasionally lean down and offer it a biscuit. Instead he is mostly concentrating on the note, which he does without the need for a dictionary.


'Monsieur Javert,

Monsieur, il y a une rumeur que vous etes direz aus gens que je refuse de vous aider quand vous avais besoin d'attention medicale. Ce n'est pas vrais; même lorsque vous disloquer mon bras, je ne refusais pas pour vous aider!

Je vais toujours vous aider: voilà une promesse.

He carefully holds the puppy's collar as he sends the note off the bar with a waitrat, and when the puppy doesn't chase after the rat, rewards it with another biscuit.

Michael has dozed off in a chair after a long day.

Mouse, however, is awake, and looking with interest in the direction of the puppy.

The puppy eventually spots Mouse, and looks a little apprehensive.

Mouse stands up, stretches, and approaches the pair in a slow, ambling arc, ears laid relaxedly back and tail wagging.

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy sees Mouse, and tenses up, wondering whether he needs to scoop up the puppy and leg it. Fran might complain if it got maimed the first time it left the house.

The puppy however calms down, and wags its tail.

Mouse is doing everything possible to present himself as friendly. As he draws closer, he dips into a play bow.

The puppy wriggles forward for a sniff.

Guppy watches the pair, hoping he won't have to intervene.

The big dog yips amiably and keeps still, letting the puppy sniff to his heart's content.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Pooh..." Guppy tries to warn the puppy to be careful, but quietly, because he still thinks it's a very stupid name for a dog. He then realises that because the puppy is deaf it's entirely useless anyway.

But Pooh doesn't appear too bothered, he doesn't bark but he wags his little tail.

Mouse looks up at Guppy with soft eyes, then lies down flat on the floor.

"Be gentle with him." Guppy says to Mouse. "My wife will kill me if anything happens to him."

His tail thumps in agreement, and he looks at the puppy and bows again.

Pooh bounds around him, in the way a puppy shaped like a sausage does.

Mouse pants contentedly, turning his head to follow the puppy's movements as best he can.

The puppy, not quite sure how to play, eventually settles down next to the big dog.

Mouse looks at him, puzzled by this but not unwelcoming, and turns to lick him gently.

Guppy looks around for the dog's owner.

The puppy accepts the licking.

Michael stirs in his chair, looking around sharply as he realizes who's missing.

"Mouse?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Is this him?" Guppy asks, indicating the dog.

[onceholyknight]

"Yeah." He sits up, relaxing. "I knew he wouldn't have gone far - wanted to make friends with your dog?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"I guess." Guppy says. "I'm not sure how easy it is for dogs to make friends, Fran says the puppy's probably deaf so I don't know if that'll bother them. Doesn't seem to so far."

He shakes his head slightly at the absurdity of her bringing a special needs dog home. Do they not have enough on?

"Not much bothers Mouse", Michael says easily. "If you're not a threat to his people - or evil - he'll be your friend."

[guppy_sandhu]

"I have to admit, I've tended to steer clear of other dogs." Guppy admits. "Our last dog, Sparky, she was only about the size of a guinea pig, and the last few years she didn't have the energy to walk far, we ended up carrying her. I think this one will grow a little bigger though."

He nods at that.

"It can be hard to tell how they're going to be sometimes."

[guppy_sandhu]

"I was bitten badly as a kid, so I've always been cautious of them. I told Fran not to get another dog without consulting me, but apparently he was going to get put down."

"For being deaf and hard to home?" Michael guesses.
