Jim nicked a table out of the bar today, but he's only borrowing it, promise! It's currently on the lawn out back with his laptop set up on it, wired up to a box of indeterminate purpose. But he's currently ignoring the technical aspects of this experiment in favour of making his drone do loop-the-loops, skidding around invisible corners in the air, and basically acting like a kid with a flying toy.
He wants to make sure bits don't fall off, OK? And maybe he's showing Sameth what it can do too, and no more so when he makes it flip upside down, and swoop down to hover an inch from Sameth's nose.
'Looks like the balance isn't affected by your stuff. Do you want a go while I check the computer program?'
For Science obviously, Sameth. Not because it's fun. At all.
[OOC: Tag in, get both! <3]

'Don't crash it.'
He just has to check the information it's sending back to his computer, and if it's all coming through then he is totally ready to see what the limits of this place are.

The controls make sense and he's been watching Jim.
no subject
'OK, this is picking everything up fine.'
He turns away from his computer, flicks a few buttons on the control box, and glances over to Sameth.
'I want to know how high the forcefield is to start with, and how far it extends around us. But I might have to do that another day, and borrow a bike from the garage or something.'
He's not walking along ten miles of lake or mountain to keep the thing in range, and sight. He doesn't trust Milliways not to break the thing if he just sends it off and hopes for the best.

They are and since many of Sam's own creations work along the same general idea as remote control, it makes sense to him.

Which is to say, Jim has just come over to check some calibrations and plucks the thing off the table leg as soon as he spots it.
'What are you, then?' he says to it, in an attempt to play nice before he crushes it with his primitive human boot.

Sameth's been coming longer than he has. He turns it over in his fingers to see if there's a panel to open to get at the insides. Because that's his first reaction to anything, robotic or human.

It r srs post. It r srs cat.
Or something.
He does look intrigued, watching the drone be put through its paces.

He just nods at him, curious as to whether he'll introduce himself or just...pretend to be a cat. Which he can respect! He himself is currently pretending to English, geeky, and harmless.

"I suppose if anyone could manage to successfully meld Charter Magic with technology that relies on electricity, it would be you. One would generally expect that thing to be husk of rusting metal, by now." Too close to the Old Kingdom, and guns won't fire and engines die. Even mere machine-made materials from Ancelstierre generally don't survive contact with the Charter long. "What does it do?"
"And who is your friend?" An afterthought.

The carbon fiber body is imbued with Marks to keep it flying stable and to hold together better with reinforcements around the cameras. At the front is the magic detector that looks like a comb, one tooth is glowing faintly gold at Yrael's presence. He did everything he could to not place any Charter within an inch or two of the electronics, but he'll only know how well it works when its pushed to an extreme.

Jim grins at Sameth.
'I like Hannibal.'
no subject
The name's familiar but he doesn't think he's actually met Hannibal. The Charter is moving below the surface of the body of the drone making it seem to shimmer.
no subject
"Nice work."
no subject
He knows. They know.
And he hopes Hannibal isn't going to be a dick about dealing with 'Jim from IT' rather than whatever else he rightly suspects him to be. He's in full innocent-nerd mode right now.
'Do you want a go? Oh, and this is Sameth if you haven't met.'

"Having fun?" She calls over.
no subject
'Always!' he calls out, and sends the drone over to whizz and spin around her head. It's under a metre long, built along military lines, and fairly obviously laden with cameras. Also a comb at the front, one tooth of which is glowing gold.
'That's Tess,' he says to Sameth. 'Have you met?'

But Jim's getting a look as the drone flies around her, mainly because, dammit, it better not ruin her hair. Once it's stopped hovering she makes her way over to the pair.
"If you want to be a spy, this isn't the best way to go about it."
no subject
Booooring.
We're doing weather experiments. Weather and magic. Hi, Tess.'
